I posted the following in another recent thread on this topic as it might explain what you are seeing

According the the P910i white paper, although the screen supports 262k colours they are only used by the Picture application when viewing images full screen. Indeed it says

The Pictures applications uses 262 thousand colours in its full screen mode. In all other cases 65 thousand colours are used. Images having more colours than used by the application will be adjusted to display optimally withing the capabilities of the P910i screen

Yeah, I explained how I believed the "262k" colour mode works in this thread:

Probably only works for static images, or pre-rendered animations, using more processing power.

Why do people fail to see that the difference between 65k colours and 264k colours is so small that it's hardly noticable at best.

To see the difference you would need an image with fades of one colour.

The difference between 4096 colours and 65k colours is huge, but between 65k and 264k the difference is very small, because 65k colours covers enough colours to represent most images.

Ya... it's kinda like for audio... 44.1kHz vs 48kHz.

Jumping from 22.05kHz to 44.1 is a big diff... but from 44.1 to 48... please.

Another thing... some people seem to forget that luminance is also counted as a color property... so the fact that the P910 can display colors "brighter" counts in the additional colors.

An interesting thing is to compare t68 and siemens 4k screen - sorry, dont remember the model, looks like a sliding soap - the t68 is way better and sharper imo. This message was posted from a T68i

262k colors is very noticeable to me. Look at the way picture quality enhances. Now my question is, in camera mode does it have the option of 262k colors or is it normal 65k? This message was posted from a K500

According my tests, the pic quality is way better in p910 as in p900, so it must be 262k. This message was posted from a T68i

Umm.. there is a pretty big difference when it comes to things such as color shifts in pictures.. at 16-bit (65k) you will see bars whenever a shade is changed however running at 18-bit, these shifts in shade are not noticable.. as they are not in a 5-10 pixel block, they are done more pixel by pixel.
This is quite noticable on a background that shifts from light blue to dark blue and you will see bars of shade horozontally..

I'd also like to mention the fact I am partially colorblind, yet I notice this shift.
