So i took my phone apart to replace the damage casing. Once put back together, i now get no signal with o2, and if i do, it's one bar, but that's for gprs i think (the bars at the bottom) but with vodafone, i manage to get signal no problem.
I called o2, and the guy said that since i'm running a payg sim in my contract phone (both o2), it's caused the phone to get confused, and lost the (possible) IME number.
He also told me to take it into carphone wharehouse to get sorted, but i was wondering is there anything that can be done here.
It's a p900, with a o2 online payg sim, and also a 02 contract.
Any help would be totally appreciated!
Lee.

Welcome to Esato
The 5 bars at the bottom show your signal & change colour from red to yellow to green depending how many bars show.
If u have GPRS signal you should see a solid blue triangle above these bars.
That idea from o2 is garbage!! Especially the part about it losing it's IMEI number! That is a number given to the phone hardware & it can't be changed by using a different SIM! In fact it makes no difference whether u use a contract SIM or PAYG SIM, I suspect there is a problem with the o2 network in your area, especially as the phone works ok on another network.
Have you tried the o2 SIM in a different phone to see how much signal it gets then?

I've never had a problem with the sims before, and normally i get full coverage in my area so i doubt it's a network coverage problem.
I'm getting at the best of times a single red bar, that's it.
I thought maybe i might of scraped something wrong when i took it apart, but obviously not since other networks work.
I would rather fix it myself that let the guys at carphone warehouse have a look you know, plus i'm cheaper!
and thanks for the welcome.

Try the o2 SIM in another phone to determine if there is a current problem with the network.

You could check the IMEI number yourself, just to eliminate that theory. With flip closed or virtual flip press *#06#
You can then compare that with the number given on your box

that idea of the "confused phone" is a load of rubbish! i got a p900 on o2 contract because i dont have the money to pay out £460 (the price at the time) to get a sim free p900, and swap between my payg (with txt 400 bolt on) and contract (only for making free calls) all the time and never had one single problem!! i used to swap between 3 sim cards, 1 contract and 2 payg before it got a bit too confusing trying to tell everyone i knew which number to phone.
id just check that the ariel is not bent or anything, when i took my p900 apart i bent the thin copper skin on the plastic thingy only in the corner and that made me get rubbish signal, took it apart again and flattend it and all was great again!

Yeah the IMEI number is correct, along with an additional '-01' at the end, whatever that means.
Oh, and where about is the arial? because i'll double check that it's not bent...

The aerial (at least on P800, I've not opened the P9 yet) is on the back of the phone at the top, under the case obviously.
It's a flat copper strip with some kind of blue coating.
