I was exploring my messaging options and noticed that i have an option to change my SMS type to e-mail and needs a e-mail gateway which is asking to input a number which i dont know.
I'm on Orange contact and wondering if this kind of sms messaging is supported by the network?
Does anyone know and used this kind of sms messaging before and the kind of number which is needed?
Thanks for your help
Regards,

What country? Anyway, you need a data account enabled. I used that before I've got the GPRS enabled. Since than I use the phones built-in e-mail client app. ;-)

@Frubin, I'm on Orange to but not UK, so what I had to do to use that service was:
- I had to contact Orange to activet a data account on GSM, not GPRS!
- I had to ask them to enable the Mobile E-mail option, otherwise I wouldn't be able to send e-mail with that option. (I'm not sure if Orange UK provide Mobil E-mail or at least they had to have a gateway, if not than you can't use the SMS e-mail option)
- I had to introduce the number they gave me for email gateway and activete to use e-mail type SMS
That's all and then I just write an SMS starting with an email addres using : insteed of @, followed by a space then te text.

Hello, u have GPRS connection, then what problam...Just configure ur Email client and enjoy..For configuring Email client, u have a POP3 email account.. Otherwise use WAP site if ur mail service provider gives that facility.

If what he has is a GPRS WAP connection, he wont be able to use the phonez mail client. For that, he needs a GPRS Internet or CSD (GSM data) account.

@ _ANDI_: Arh Ok.
I contacted the Orange customer services and queried about the sms to e-mail option on my handset. They said that they don't support the facility and it's more to do with the handset provider, Sony Ercisson so need to contact them to see whether the handset support or enabled the option.
Strange as i thought it was more to do with the network provider, but i do remember i had the same issue with my Ericsson A2618s which has a WAP facility on it but does not work as the handset does not support it.
@ smnrock1979: I have GPRS enabled on my handset and have already configurated the email clinet to recieve and send emails from my email client, but this sms-email option is different as it enables you to send email through normal sms which also uses GPRS.
@ wapchimp: Oh they don't? So that means that that my handset T610 and Sony Ericsson dont support it either?
@ AYA: I have both GPRS and CDS (GSM) wap enabled on my phone so i can swop between the two WAP profiles.
P.S: I'm acutally
female!
