Hi all, so far I've experienced a few problems with my P910i which makes me feel that SE is not doing a good job testing their product before they are on market.
1. Windows XP cannot use file browser for my P910i, hence I cannot transfer files between my P910i and my computer.
2. The firmware update service crash during update on both of my Windows XP computer and my Windows 2000 computer.
3. No "official" stereo headset is available in the market, only in grey market.
Yes, there are alternatives to the problems, but I disagree that the alternatives are something that SE would suggest in order to fix the problems.
1. SE tell me to disable Firewall and Antivirus so that I can use my file browser.
This is completely nonsense, why should I disable my firewall and antivirus and compromise my computer to potential attack in order get SE's software work? Moreover, the Windows XP service pack 2 firewall and Norton Antivirus is something that is pretty standard that SE should make their best effort to test their software with the compatibility of the software.
2. SE tell me to use "third party" software like "EPOC File Manager" to transfer files.
This is also nonsense to me. I can use it but I've to BUY it. SE promised me the functionality to exchange files between phone and computer, however it is not working and they tell me to BUY another software to do it. So why should I BUY a SE phone in the first place?
3. Firmware update service cannot update the phone
I think that everyone agrees that Firmware is quite important to the SE P910i. SE should make their best effort to test their updates before handing them out. Moreover, if it is a problem with my phone, I'm quite surprised that my phone is having problem with the flash memory itself when it goes out of the factory. Moreover, the technical support in SE Hong Kong is completely not helpful and cannot fix the problem for me.
3. No "official" stereo headset is available in the market, only in grey market.
This is another thing that annoys me, they create a potentially great phone, however, completely without accessories to use with it. I'm only looking for a stereo headset that allows me to plug my standard 3.5mm headphone into the handfree. Third party product is available but I'm not confident with the build quality of the third party product. Moreover, the original headset's sound is not good at all and is cracky.
As a result, I might sell the phone soon and would consider not buying from SE again. Since I'm a technical guy for a long time, I'm pretty sure that SE is not doing a good job at all in this moment.

From what I read I do suggest that you should sell your P910i if you are unhappy... On the other hand, I also gather you'll develop the same gripes about the next phone you end up replacing your P910 with... Once you come to realization that all manufacturers sit in the same vicious round table you'll probably end up regretting having rid of your P910..

To me it sounds like you'd be happier with an Mp3 player than a P910i.
But to answer your points (since i'm also a P910i owner)
1. I run a laptop and a desktop with windows XP (PRO, Sp1), on the desktop I have the DSS 25 conenction through my external sound cards USB hub, on both machines it works perfectly fine. It also runs fine on windows 2000, using 3.1.1 of the PC suite here.
Some firewall software is completely naff and WILL stop the connection between your phone and the PC. I got rid of Nortons internet security and I know of others who've had huge troubles with zone alarm. (IIRC some users on esato had more luck with earlier versions of Zone alarm, me personally, think its the worst written piece of software you could possibly install.)
Antivirus, running both mcaffee and NAV on the desktpo and laptop respectively, no problems with either. However its TROUBLESHOOTING, if somethign isn't workting they're obviously providing suggestions on what might be causing it. To dismiss it because they should have to work with everything isn't being fair to SE.
SP2 isn't standard, I know corporates and personal users staying away form it, I personally won't touch it, probably until the time that Sp3 comes out.

Yay for turning off automatic updates on first install.
2. The file manager problems are directly related to the above, if you can't connect you can't browse. Have you tried actually doing what they suggest then if it doesn't work, asking them where to next? They surely have techs or support people that can advise what might be stopping your file browsing form connecitng. Again I have absolutely no problems transferring to the phone or memory stick, though for speeds sake I'll pop the memory stick into the laptop directly and copy to it.
3. If their standard tech support can't help, ask them to escalate the issue or speak to someone that can. If they won't, get your dealer involved and have them seek someone in SE that can help. You're not exactly helpless as a customer.

Can't say I've experienced problems with the update service other than it being a little slow, if i really wanted to theres service centers that will do it too. If on the off chance your phone was faulty, they could at least pick that up. Ask your dealer if he has one setup at his shop, take your phone in and try to connect it to his setup if so, then you'll see if your phone is the problem. Or, send it in to be checked out.
4. So they choose not to make their phone specifically a music player and instead give it a handsfree option out of the box. Maybe its not the best solution but there is others. Don't think they've ever made a 3.5mm convertor, either as sony or ericsson. How loud are you running the handsfree? I don't hear a crackle unless i'm running at pretty much near full volume and cranking out MP3s. (Is it acceptable that it can't run 100% volume all the time without a crackle, well hey, I don't need to drown things out so for me, yes. I don't intend it to be an ipod.)
If you're a technical guy, then I'd have imagined you'd have installed the P910i on a completely fresh PC running nothing but a copy of Xp with no sp2 or installed firewall to rule out the possibility that maybe, JUST maybe, something on your PC is causing the headaches and thus ruining most of your fun with the phone. As I say from personal experience the only time I had issues was with internet security installed. Once that was gone, I was a happier P910er.
Goodluck.

with regards to your complain about the file browser and the firmware, i personally didnt have any problem with that, i had my firmware upgraded the day before and everythings fine, as for the file browser, i had been using it the day i bought my p910...
so far, i have not regreted the fact that i bought a p910....not even once.... in fact i feel that p910 is the smartest, even best best phone out in the market....
ps: i've always been a nokia person before, not until the P series came out... it changed my mobile perspective and realized that there is more to life than connecting people...

I'm running WinXP Pro with SP2... never had a single problem with my P910i from day 1, so that must mean it's YOUR system.
1) Windows Explorer works fine... I can send files to and from P910i no problem, with no need to use EPOCware's File Manager.
2) I've updated my P910i 2x since I got it... no problems during update either.
3) Official stereo headsets have been available since the P800 days.
I have PC-Cillin's firewall and AV, as well as Zonealarm running... never had to shut either one of them down.

@mikejuni,
Think again. Really. This phone really not so bad as you think. So many users didn't complain any about this phone actually... This phone is so georgeos until ppl would sell their old phones and buy this P series..
So many people have update, transfer the files successfully within the phone and i do hope you won't have any problem with this...
Yeah yeaH!!

I think that you guys got it wrong.
I can say that many people is not having problem with it, but what I'm disappointed about is the attitude that SE is taking when they're releasing and supporting their product.
1 specific point I'd like to mention about is that Windows XP SP2 is going to be THE standard, as Microsoft is retiring support for Windows XP without SP2. (Check Microsoft website)
I think that it might be a problem with my phone too. However, I'm not happy with the way SE is handling it because when I take my phone to the service centre, they're always telling me that the phone is okay (since it can dial in and dial out, and there are no problem browsing files using their own PC).
In order to release a product to general public, I think that compatibility is a high priority, and SE is definitely not doing a good job in testing for compatibility. I'm just using a Standard IBM T41 with default drivers installed (except that I've installed SP2).
I've already contact SE for more support. Let's see when will they have a response to me. Also, I'd suggest people who is having similar problem contact SE as well to "push" them to do something quick.

I run WinXP with SP2 and have no problems what-so-ever but thats cause I do not rely on m$ to protect my computer I use a Linux firewall and turn off the firewall in the computer so communication with the phone and other devices on my internal net works like a charm and I'm still
protected to the outside by my linuxfirewall.
(oh and with this setup I never had a problem updating the firmware either)
Alot of the problems when it comes to sync etc. really is
computer problems not phone problems.
