> Vodafone branded S700i - why did I do it? Wail!
Bookmark topic
I'll try to be brief.....
I paid £100 for an S700. Phone was beautiful but didn't work. Wanted to return it, company were useless. Cancelled contract, returned phone.
Last night I went into town and bought an S700i. It was such a good deal (free with £50 cashback!) that I didn't think anything of it when I noticed it was branded.
Got it home and it's hideous! the beautiful, classy looking midnight blue background and icons are gone. There are no shortcuts to bluetooth etc and it in all honesty looks like a toy phone.
I'm loath to take it back as it was such a good deal but is there anything I can do to get rid of the horridness that is passing itself off as icons etc.
Thanks!

yes there is

2:
1. take it back and buy unbranded one
2. debrand it using a remote server (PM if you are interested)... but that will void your warranty

Thing is, if I take it back then I have to pay out for a new one and I'm not overkeen on parting with more money!
Sorry for being a numpty but how exactly would I go about debranding it with a remote server?
Also, how reliable is it? Much as I hate it, I don't really want to b*gger up my phone just yet...

Just get a firmware flash, should do the trick.

A company called ETC communications. They were doing quite a good deal (£99 when everyone else wanted £250).
Having said all this, debranding is a bit academic now. I am having more problems with the mic which is what happened with the last one I had. All day today I've had complaints from people who can't hear me and I've had the phone at every angle from straight to a right angle to my head!
I haven't got the energy to try again so I now have to decide whether it's worth upgrading from the T630 to the K700i. Shame really 'cos I loved the S700....
Thanks anyway guys. This forum is great!

@goonergirl
You could either return this one and buy it on O2 - won't be as cheap but all their stock is unbranded, generic

stock. Alternatively, I wouldn't recommend unbranding it yourself, if you really have no idea what you're doing. Many small independent retailers will do it or you could try
www.aboveconnection.co.uk, but I believe you have to post to them.

Hi Freestyle. I'm trying not to say oh dear.....!
I eventually got the phone last Friday evening (after 2 weeks of arguing with them). Within about an hour of using it everyone (about 5 people) had complained that the sound quality was rubbish and that it sounded as if I was speaking down the end of a loo roll tube!
No one in the office over the weekend so I rang on Monday. They told me I had to send the phone back first to get a replacement, then told me I couldn't just send it back, I had to wait for a pre paid envelope. Nothing arrived till this morning. In the meantime I phoned them twice a day to chase it up and got a very don't care attitude from them. Yesterday I told them to cancel it and I would go elsewhere.
The short answer is, yes it was faulty straight out of the box. I just couldn't do anything about it for a week which frustrated me.
I've heard that this is a problem on some of them but not all. Either I have been very unlucky or my mobile phone technique is seriously dodgy!
Good luck though. you'll probably be fine. I obviously just wasn't meant to have this phone!
