Hello all,
Been browsing this site for more then a year but just registered today.
I just got a K700i. I am a long time Ericsson user, started with GF768, then T39, T68i, T610 and since today K700i.
The K700i is a nice phone but I miss some crucial 'modes' I had on the T610 and T39 (T68i was not such a good phone).
* What happened to the shortcuts menu? This is what I use very often.
* Joystick has no function for 'left' and 'right' movement in the mode when the phone is on it's default screen. On the T610 'left' would go directly to the first setting in the shortcuts menu (that would be the calendar for me).
* Voice dailing: no more 'mobile', 'work', 'home' voice to be set. Now for the same person which has 3 numbers I have to record 3 times the same name. Wonder how the K700i will know which number I want to dail...
This is what I have found so far. Maybe for some of you this means nothing, but for me the above functions are the ones I used most. I hope that some of you can enlighten me on the above mentioned. If not, I will sell the phone and continue to use the T610.
Thank you very much in advance!

RTFM!
Its all in the manual...

Your phone is faulty
When new, moving the joystick left will ask you what type of message to create (SMS/MMS) and moving it right will ask you to create a custom shortcut.
As for the shortcuts menu, I dont really miss it as common features are all accessable in other ways. Ie * + right softkey locks the keys. hold 1 for voicemail. Hold # for silent. Right softkey has shortcuts on it as well.
Also you can simply press menu then the numbers for fast access to things. Times move on, there is really no need in having to create a list for yourself.
Just been looking at the voice control, and yes I can see that they have changed it from the 2 word system, where you wait for the beep. Say the name, wait for the second beep, say the number type, then hope its got them both right, or you would have to start again, now its just one phrase for each number, its called progress. and I happen to think that it has improved it.
However I do think that they should have left the redial voice option in there.

since you dont have the shortcuts menu or the functions of left and right joystick - you propably bought a branded phone - my guess is Orange.
Some operators like Vodaphone and Orange use their own firmware with functions changed or disabled

Ok, thanks for the replies so far.
Maybe I forgot to mention, I bought it from Orange. When on the default screen I have 3 icons above the time:
- phone > quick access to phonebook and call list
- messages > quick acces to write new and inbox
- home > quick access to Orange World
There is no option to create a custom shortcut.

Thanks, but these are no new functions, pressing numbers dates back from the T39 for me

I told you the K700i is a poor mobile. Too many bugs (Vodafone version) and low quality buttons/design. No thanks!

Its not

fault, as the first 2 problems that you have come across are because Orange have played with the software and removed the functions that you want.
