They research customers to find out what they want. They then have a process where by inside trials are held. They also create a financial forecast and if it is high (i.e. makes them lots of money) they will slowly release the product in its experience stores first to test the water and then there other stores,

First bit of useful (or maybe useless) info.
Vodafone has exclusive rights on the V800i for 3-4mths (couldnt get exact details). Whether SE release this phone to other networks will depend on vodafones sales. If high vodafone will continue to have full exclusivity of the phone on their network. ALL of the vodafone stores sell contract phones OFF CONTRACT (SIM FREE) so if u go into a store and they say no just mention that u know they do and would like to speak to their manager (V800 is £400 if my memory serves me correctly).

...And the business of ruining our beloved phones with horrid Voda branding and messing about with the firmware? Why, oh why?!!

There official line on that one is....
"To create a global brand that is worthy of the worlds biggest global communications company"
My feelings???? Well i dont like it. I work all week with the brand rammed down my throat and then on my days off i have to look at my phone (v800) with all those voda symbols... i cant even lay it on its face!!! they put a bloody sign on the back!!! grrrr :@

I for example own a [A1 ( Austria)] vodafone at the moment, but i'll change provider because of this branding sh*t
i like the live portal but this branding with the mp3 limitation is horrible
