Maybe someone can help!
I’ve just sent my second P910 back which had the same fault as the first. I am deeply sceptical that the third is going to be any better. But I really want it to be.
My P910 is on Orange. It has the early PDA software. Initially it works beautifully. I load Smartner’s Duality. I synch my Outlook. SMan is loaded and flushes. Everything is peachy.
Once, the phone lasted 5 days on one charge, and was fine – no – brilliant for every one of those 5 days!
But usually after about 2 days, the battery suddenly goes (once it did this after about 6 hours) – I mean within hours a full charge goes. I try to switch from one application to another and it freezes – sometimes I get the white screen of death and sometimes nothing happens at all. After a minute or so, I get Program Closed “ViewSrv” Reason Code 11. Then I press OK and can open another application, but cannot then switch to or open another.
Its like the phone can’t push the current application to the background – or the memory is filled with applications it cannot close, even with SMan. It smacks of an operating system bug, or maybe a non-compatibility with Duality. Or maybe something is not compatible with Orange’s front end. I have done searches of this forum and can see lots of people having similar problems but haven’t seen a solution which works, other than a Master Reset … then I restore, synch etc and the phone will last another 2 days. That’s a real pain, and anyway I do not always carry my laptop (if I did, I wouldn’t need the phone!) I can’t always do this – this weekend, I relied on this phone for work and it seriously let me down.
Can anyone help?
I really want to sort this out, because the phone is so damn good when it works. But when it doesn’t its close to useless, even as just a phone (can’t dial, can’t receive, doesn’t ring …its trash!), and if the next phone does this, I’ll switch to my old trusty Nokia, get a Blackberry and there will be no going back … until the next one comes along that looks as good!
Heeeelp! Thanks in advance.

Hello mate, and welcome to Esato.

Not sure how much I can help, except to say that I use an Orange P910i with Duality with no problems. Have you downloaded anything other than Duality and SMan, in terms of 3rd party software, as I've never known Duality to cause a problem (used it on a P900 previously)?

Having said that, I fully intend to have my P910i unlocked and unbranded as soon as my local shop can do it, as I'm not too happy with the Orange firmware generally!

Hi Dave UK – well I take heart from hearing that someone has the P910 working, working with Orange and working with Duality. So that is a great help for a start! Maybe my 2 came from the same dodgy batch!
As a matter of interest, how long does your battery last – I presume you have the Duality running all the time? Also I’d be really interested to hear how you get on un-branding and upgrading - where this shop is – I’m based out Kingston way.
Cheers mate.

I have Duality running for about 15 hours a day (when I'm not in the office) and at the moment, I'm getting 24 hours out of the battery, though that's due to a different app. Independently of that, about 2 days was standard, but I use BT and GPRS (obviously) quite alot. I'll let you know about the unbranding (I'm in NW London) when they let me know!

@Dave_UK: As someone who is happy with P910i and Duality, I wonder if you can help me.

I am trying to set up my 910i for use with Duality but I'm getting stuck on installing the certificate. I am trying to ultimately install the Internet Edition as all I want to do is have push email for my POP/IMAP accounts (we don't have a PC based corporate email server).

Also, can you tell us which version of Duality you use and whether you can access POP servers too.

Any thoughts, suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks

Graeme

@graeme

I use the professional edition, which is the "middle one" that allows me access to our corporate exchange server via my PC, without actually needing to make any changes to the server.

If you just want POP3/IMAP4, why not just used the inbuilt client - sounds like you don't Duality for what you require? I pick up Hotmail and Orange.net email using the inbuilt client, and Gmail using a 3rd party app called Profimail (a bit of a pain but the only client available to support SSL, which Gmail requires).

@dave_uk: Thanks for the fast response.

I hear what you say about using the standard email app ... but what I do at the moment is to forward my office mail to a POP or IMAP account when I'm on the road as we don't have any VPN connection to the company network.

And that's why I'm interested in Duality - or anything else that'll push my emails to me.

Thanks

In case anyone finds this in the future, the P910i does not need a certificate to be downloaded so you just take the Duality.sis file and follow the instructions that Smartner provides thereafter.

FYI I got the thing to work on my .mac account but not my yahoo.co.uk email account. Go figure.

Also, like others before me, I found that I did not get a visual alert when new emails came into the Duality account. The very helpful people at Smartner told me they are working with SE to resolve this issue in future versions of Duality (the Internet Edition is only a beta after all).

Hi,

I'm french so I apologise for my very bad english. I have a P910i and the provider is Orange too.
I frequently have the bug "Viewsrv motif 11" on all applications. I don't think that the problčme is due to what you call "Duality", but a largest problem (I don't have Duality).
When it comes,
- I have my battery that is going empty very quickly
- The only thing I can do is to retire physically de battery
- Even after this, the problem continue

It's the third time that I'm in this situation. I don't know when and what thing solves the problem, but it does.

I have the phone since about 3 mounths. At this time, I have allready contact Sony Ericsson and when I expose the problem, they tell me :
Change the language from french to english - what I did - but it doesn't change anything.

I don't know what to do now. Expecting from you a little help.

Thank's

Boris1969 from Paris

Boris - your symptons seem very similar to mine. like you I am on my third phone from Orange. These are my suggestions:
- The only cure for the phone (that I found) was a master reset and restore. a real nuisance i know, but the only cure.
- then i noticed that my phone starting behaving like this following use of the alarm. i stopped using the alarm. the problem did not recur, but i did not give the phone long, as i discoved that i could install the latest firmware from SE.
- install latest firmware. problem has not recurred so far (2 days), but i have not used the alarm, and i back up the phone every single day, in case i have to to a master reset and restore ...

the easiest solution of them all is to get your firm to give you a blackberry for the emails and use a decent phone such as my very old but infinately more reliable and very much longer lasting nokia 8310! [my 910 seems to heed this threat and has behaved itself since!]

good luck!
