you will not be able to use yr vodafone japan handset with any usim card other than the usim card provided by vodafone japan. this applies to any vodafone japan wcdma fone, sharp, sanyo, etc.
the new se v802se may become the first that could be used, but we dont know that since v802 is not launched yet in japan and we dont know what are the internal differences between the global v800 edition and the v802 japan edition.

Thanks Niji,

I was thinking that being a global phone USIM are backwards compatible thus accepting non USIM cards.

Non USIM US phones for example (N3390, 3395) can be converted to 3320/3315/3330 and can be used here in PI. Sanyo's fone looked very nice and how I wished I could do something with it here!

arnoldmalo,
every other 3g phone that i have bought, outside of those in japan, have been able to be unlocked so as to take other provider's usim cards. even a 3g fone bought outside of japan can take a japanese usim card.
i have heard that several groups of people in various countries have tried to unlock japanese 3g fones, and that no one has been successful to date.
there are, however, fones that can be rented in japan that can take yr usim card. therefore it is not a network problem. it is a fone firmware based reason, or, some sort of hardware hard-coated thing japanese vodafone and docomo are doing to their handsets.

Sanyo S750 is going to be for ORANGE, and as long as it is for ORANGE I bet there shouldn’t be any unlock problems... but who knows.
As for V801 I heard that there is a guy in Russia, and he unlocked one or two phones. But first of all he lives not Moscow and second there is no prove...
