i dunno if i can describe this properly but i just wondered if something like this was available anywhere:
an emergency charger that you charge up from a normal power point then when your mobiles battery runs down you just plug it into the phone, flick a switch and the power is transferred to the phone.

i know you can buy emergency chargers from pound shops that run from aaa batteries but they cost a fortune in battteries! i just wondered if there was one that ran from electric?

so you´re searching for a battery to charge a battery?
Why don´t you just buy a second regular? If you don´t buy originals they won´t be that expensive - but generally equally (or even more) powerful.. (as long as you´re not using nokia btw..)

to charge a second battery i would have to put it in the phone. i havent got the time or memory for that at least with the other thing all i have to remember to do is keep it charged then pick it up on my way out.
plus i dont trust non original batteries, nokia or not.

not sure about rechargeable battery chargers but you can certainly buy wind up chargers like the one won in playtime [look here) but I personally just carry a USB charger as you can almost always find a PC somewhere nearby

yea i mentioned the aaa run ones above, i had one once and duracell shares shot straight up.

how do these wind up chargers work? do you have to stand there winding it while its plugged into the phone to generate power?
because that would make me look really good at work while im flipping burgers!

to be honest I didn't even try the wind up charger before sending it out but my understanding was that you wind it up briefly like a toy and the stored energy in the spring is what provides power as it unwinds. you can buy wind up radios (at the gadget shop etc) that work the same way

I've got both a wind up charger and one that takes aaa batteries. With the wind up one, you have to be winding it constantly to get the phone to charge constantly, which can be rather tiring but useful if you're in the middle of nowhere and need to send a text or make a quick call urgently. The main problem is you'll be winding for something like 8 minutes to get a 2 minute conversation or something like that.

What I have done with the battery-powered emergency charger is I have some NI-MH rechargeable AAA batteries which I used in that. They gave the phone enough of a 'get me home to a charger' charge and it didn't cost me a fortune in batteries!

The other option is to carry a charger somewhere with you - I have one in the glovebox of my car 'just in case' also.

I've also seen solar-powered chargers on Ebay for around £10 - but not tried them so not sure what they're like and if they need the light of 1,000 suns just to put a bit of charge into your phone!

as I mentioned, I always carry a USB charger but you reminded me that I do also have a cigarette lighter USB adaptor so I can plug any of my USB chargers into any car

thats unfortunate about the windup charger you have. doesn't sound like fun at all
