guys. how are the four of the above different. i am so confused. what are the networks that z1010 and v800 works. i know z1010 is umts and dualband. what about v800? i know it has 3g. are cdma 1x, cdma2x differnet forms of 3g? (like 900, 1800, 1900 of gsm?) what is the deciding factor in cdma and 3g? (like, 850 is for americas, 900/1800 for pretty much rest of the world. like that. are there different forms like this within cdma. if so how? for gsm i know it is frequency. but for cdma?)
pls post whatever you know however trivial the information is.

All i know is that cdma networks are analog and gsm is digital and cdma's data transfer is much faster then gsm's gprs

CDMA runs on the 850/1900 bands, & x1, x2 are just grades or phases of d technology in evolution.
In parallel, GSM runs on 900/1800 bands. 1g, 2g, 2.5g, & 3g are progressive grades/phases in d evolution of GSM.
On either CDMA or GSM, each succeding phase of evolution promises faster data rates than the last. So 3g is faster than 2g. CDMA x2 is faster than CDMA x1.
UMTS is 3g. GPRS is 2.5g. The z1010 & v800 are both 3g devices.

Generally, the CDMA platform has provided much faster data rates than GSM. 3g promises to play catchup in the speed game, bu we have to wait and see how it goes. GPRS promises up to 171kbps in theory, but in real life hardly delivers more than 15kbps for a number of reasons.

umts belong to the gsm class, right? and not cdma. correct? so a umts or a 3g phone will not be able to operate in cma1x. which other country other than india and americas have adopted cdma technology? is umts a version of 3g? what are the other kinds of 3g devices?

Yes, UMTS/3G is on d GSM platform, not CDMA. But motorola recently released a new set of quad band (850/900/1800/1900mhz) phones (v300, v400, v600 et al), which I suspect should be able to work on both GSM & CDMA networks (anyone sure of d details, pls educate us some more).
Canada, & I think a few Asian countries also run CDMA.
