There's a new text input app for UIQ called AZpen. Here is some info from my-symbian:
Quote:
AZpen by Textra Technology Limited is anew way to enter text that can be usedwithout a stylus - even on the move whenother methods are impractical. AZpenallows you to use your device in moreplaces and situations making it moreuseful to you - it is possible to dispensewith the stylus and enter text with just afingertip. Trial version is available in our Downloads. Full version can be purchasedin the Online shop.
I've just installed the generous 3month trial but I'm not sure what to make of it.
Firstly it replaces the handwriting, u cannot use both. That's bad!
Second it would take some gettin used to as it puts a grid of 4 squares on the screen & letters around each one. You draw a line towards each letter, simple......
until u need to do things which aren't there. It'll take ages to remember how to get to extended characters etc & I just can't see me spending the frustrating time to learn it when I'm so damn good with the native handwriting
Anyone else tried and/or have an opinion on this odd little app?

As a Swedish speaker, the first thing I noticed was lack of the peculiar small letter called "å", you can make almost any umlaut except "å".
Other than that, I think that the learning curve is quite steep for this "innovative" way of entering text, I fiddled around with it for a couple of minutes and even tried to write a small text, first with then without the help-grid.
Then I uninstalled it, I don't think anyone would find it useful, it would be better to enter text with the keyboard on the P910 if you can't use handwriting recognition.
The killer-app lies in a handwriting recognition that could learn how I write certain letters and adapt to the user. The user should never have to adapt to the machine.
After looking at their website (http://www.textratech.com/) I don't think any phone manufacturer will implement this cumbersome way of entering text by pressing up to three buttons at once to type just one letter!!
But I may be wrong...

Same here, is too much complicated to remember every letter without some kind of guide

I agree... it was a nice idea though... but not refined enough.
it may be faster than multi-tap...but way slower, and more limited than T9.
T9's limitations seems to be the machine it's installed on, since the T9 on the P910 is much better than the T9 found on other SE models... even the auto complete is much smarter as well.

So not just me that finds it not so good then
Also I don't like how it's little icon at the bottom overlaps with the icon for the virtual keyboard
