Does Sony memory stick have a bright future though it's so expensive and limited to SONY products only?

I know there r ppl who run away from Sony products, eg Sony digital camera, since it is based on Memory Stick Media...
(If I am not wrong, the price of 2 SD cards is equivalent to 1 Memory Stick)

Why not Sony merge with other companies and use SD or MMC?
Wht is the point using its own Memory Stick?
Unique? Special?

Sony has always been using proprietary accessories/technology in their products. Though a lot of people don't like this idea but this must have actually worked well for Sony and all Sony product users. Sony produces undeniably good quality products anyway IMO.

Sony and Samsung recently reach a deal to allow samsung to produce their products using the memory stick. Think this will sure increase the uses of MS. Hope tt will also drive down the price of MS.

I like the MS/MS Duo because I can use/exchange it in my P900, Sony DSC-P120 camera and the upcoming PSP.

Is it true that third party Memory Sticks have some incompatibility issues with Sony products?

I am pretty sure they are 99.999% compatible. I read somewhere that SanDisk makes the ones Sony brands as it's own anyway.

I think the Somy Memory Stick is here to stay for a while yet. As already mentioned samsung have started using it and NEC use it as well, so more and more kit uses it.
