hey...

i was just wondering whether there was a limit to the framerate the phone plays on the background? like i noticed most of the themes have fairly low framerates but the sonyeric site has the "try phone" which plays the frames at mm flash rates, (25fps+).

do you mean 'animated themes' in the sense of the 'flying balls' animation?

Or do you mean 'animated themes' with a standard .gif animation for wallpaper?

if you mean lag.

I've got this as one of my caller thumbnails and it runs very smoothly.

Yeah vlam, what are there flying balls? What i am interested in is the max fps the phone can take. Is it limited due to screen or phones processor? (Or whatever is equivalent to a processor) This message was posted from a K500

The max frame rate is based on the processor grunt of the mobile.

This is due to:
- the amount of complexity frame to frame in a gif (as some gifs use an optomising technique),
- the resolution of each frame.

The same animation from my t68 runs faster on my T610, and very fast on my K700. The animation in question has a 0ms delay between frames (within the gif file).

The K700 looks like it can handle about 10-12fps for complex fullscreen animations (based on my 75 frame ani that goes for about 6 secs)

I think I know what you mean, like animated icons right? That would be cool... ahh... if only the firmware was open source.

Someday someone has to crack this firmware open and improve it for everybody's sake. Just think of the things that could be improved. Maybe mobile phones should take a Linux approach - though I think I'm dreaming since it'll never happen. Or at least, when they stop releasing firmware updates, let the public do it.

well that's a whole different story.
I take it you don;t have the V800
What I mean are existing animated menus (balls flying over standby screen, balls flying with your cursor on the desktop and balls flying in your highlight bars)

It's nothing fancy and still a looooong shot from true animated menus but it functions on the V800 nonetheless.

Oh, naa I've only got the k700i, which I'm still really happy with. And I probably wont be changing phones for at least a year since my contract's end is nowhere in sight.

Though, I'd still love se to give the community a go at 'fixing' the firmware
