I was reading an an item on the bbc site about the aid that the G8 nations are giving to Africa, I personally don't think that they are giving enough, after Bill Gates gave over a billion dollars a few years ago to cancel third world debt.

However it is better than nothing and we should be grateful that they have considered Africa at all with all that has happened in the past year.

I would also like to see other nations in Eastern Europe, Asia and the former soveit union get aid as well.

Most nations spend more on defence programs than they do on helping third world nations, if people were well fed, had a good life, rights and equality then they wouldn't need to go to war or to terorise Westen natoins.

What do you guys think?

this is just human nature..... think about it, our history book is all about wars and suffering caused by human behaviours.......

as Einstein has said:" i dun know wat WW III is gonna be fought with, but i know WW IV is gonna be fought with sitcks and stones....."

such developement of new and more destructive weapons will eventually lead to the destructoin of man kind..... there are still 156 broken arrows (missing nukes) around the world, no one knows who's got them and how they r gonna use them....... lete alone tens of thoughsands of nukes held by US,China, UK,France and Russia........ and the late comers too, India and Paki......

it is very ironic that US tends to play the role of world police (which really disgusts me..... they forcibly make other ppl to believe in their ideology and way of life, otherwise they should be eliminated) and call for world peace, but at the same time US owns the most nukes and weapons of massive destruction..... it banned Iraq from making bio-chemical weapons, yet US has a large stock of it.....

Not to mention Central and of South America as well. A lot of people live off a salary of $30 a month there, which is pretty pathetic, compared to the US average salary.

If they were so truly serious about stopping famine and diseases in these countries, I'm sure it would have been done already a long time ago. Instead they just send a few doctors and some food and say, "Hey, look we're doing something now! Can't say we aren't doing nothing!" while there home country lives off an excess food supply and products made by poor people (Adidas, Nike, hehe, just to name a few).
Freedom and peace my ass.

Delta> Its strange how people compare the $ denominated income to measure other countries standard of living. An average Indian earns about $2500 a year but that doesn't mean he lives a pathetic life. Remember rent costs about $20 a month for him - and that too for a decent concrete house (not wooden!), with two bedrooms and all decent facilties. He doesn't spend more than $50 a month, even if he lives a decent luxurious life. The rest go for his childrens education and savings - which is one of the reasons why Asian nations have a high rate of savings and very low personal debt.

Therefore to say that people are poor because they earn only $30 a month is not true... what is needed is to measure purchasing power of the money they earn. According to Worldbank and IMF, people enjoy more from their income than their western counterparts and among Asian countries India stands first in number of people being content from their salary.

@Maltesh

Actually, I've been too Honduras and seeing people live in such cheap standards (Some of them don’t even have homes) and taken advantage of from huge corporate companies shows me these people are poor

And there buying power is not so great, even though you can buy a huge farm for almost nothing, because they can't, most of them can’t even buy the food they eat everyday.

As for decent homes? Haha I think you'd run away the first day you saw their version of a decent home

But comparing Honduras to India is completely different (or Asia for that matter).
I can also go on about India's huge poverty, but it would probably lead to a huge debate…
