NRK (Norwegian National TV) anounce that ForbrukerTvistUtvalget (It's an official Gouvermental depatrment that looks after customer's rights when purchase of all producta and services) had set a new standard on the expected life on mobile phones.
Normal warranty on mobile phones are, as we all know, one year and manufacturers expect a mobile phone to last an average of two years. FTU on the other hand says that mobile phones are concidered as any other electrical appliences and should therefor go under the same law.
If your mobile phone is less than five years and fails to work factory warranty should still apply.
Manyfacturers represented here in Norway argues the new law and will ignore it and only concider their own warranty statements.
Good for Norwegian consumers but a serious challenge for , Nokia and co.
Happy to live in Norway but I feel a bit sorry for the manufacturors of mobile phones; Most of us can't even remember what mobile phone we had five years ago.

in germany there is already a two year warranty on everything bought new since 2002 (except real estate and ships), only with a switch in burden of proof after 6 month (i.e. first nearly every defect is suspected to be a manufacturers one, after 6 month customer has to prove - but in germany the manufacturers normally go for the 2 years warranty without problems).
But 5 years would be great (I had a Motorola 930i five years ago - as far as I can remember )

Acording to this article in IT-Avisen (A Norwegian IT site) Nokia is going to prove a point in conection to this new rule buy taking a customer to court!


Nokia refuses to accept the decission made by "Forbrukertvistutvalget" on five years warrenty on mobile phones. They are there for taking a single customer to court.


In the television programme this evening Jonny Yapp from Oslo tells his story. His arument with Nokia dates as far back as 1996. Since thenn he has had a lot of Nokia phones wich had, scording to Yapp, been more at the repair shop than in his pocket.
Yapp gets endless support from "Forbukertvistutvalget", who has decided the five year warrenty rule. Nokia will appeal the decission by taking Yapp to court.

Norwegian buissniess acosiation supports Nokia. They claim mobille telephones has an expected life of less than two years and should be exepted from the five year rule. A lot of portable equipment has a standard warranty period of two years.

Peronally I agreee that five years of warrany is about three years too much but taking a single, private and loyal customer to court ot way over the top.
(Good marketing stratergy there Nokia!!!)

It would indeed boba.. :-) manufacturers rush,rush,rush there products which end up with a huge amount of probs for us the consumers, you know they've only brought all this onto themselves.. Hope something alleges here in GB too :-) This message was posted from a T630

i hope that poor guy is going to have his solicitor/court costs by that government group who is backing him.
if not maybe se would like to do it, in return for him endorsing se!!!!!!
