Recently it's become apparent that O2 have stopped giving away their free WAP dialup minutes with their online O2 tarrif, preferring GPRS instead, have they starting ending the service too?

Up until a couple of days ago I've been merrily using my free dialup minutes to browse the web, check web-based email, use Agile Messenger and jMSN Pro on my P900. I could also dial up with my iBook and using the famous 193.113.200.195:8080 proxy browse the net (slowly!)

Today I attempted to log on to Yahoo without any luck. Opera has stopped working, as has jMSN. Dialling up with my iBook allows me to browse the web but not use Messenger or Yahoo. Has O2 wised up to the free internet ruse and blocked it off or is it just my phone? I don't have another handset to try it with. Has anyone else noticed any problems?

Im also having a similar problem.
I can connect through dial up and use msn etc... but for some reason o2 are charging me for it now!?
SMS, MMS and GPRS are all still free though... so I can connect to "msn web messenger" and yahoo via GPRS ; )
Still, I have no idea what o2 are up to here?!

sometimes it just goes through glitches for a day or two. all i can say is just keep trying.

I'm also having the same problems with O2 WAP. I now cannot connect to my email on my SE T68i on IMAP or POP3. Anyone got any ideas as to what is going on?

I have spoken with some useless muppet at O2 customer services with regards to Gprs/wap/mms problems and the response I had is as follows

The software system used by O2 was a legacy system from the days before BT Cellnet. This system was really designed to be analogue.

When BT Cellnet launched digital services MMS / GPRS it is apparently pure luck if people were able to use both! (So i'm led to believe)

I have been using both MMS and GPRS WAP as well as being able to pick up emails via GSM Dial up.

They have now implemented new systems on network and accounts and it is now the accout side which is limiting my access to services as I should never really have been able to receive them for the last 2 years.

This will unfortunately only kick in from the next billing date which is 3 weeks away.

Yet again another customer service disaster from O2

Hi Guys,

I've always found the o2 telephone support people to be pretty useless. So I always go through email support via:

Login and go to the "tell" tab.

Anyway, this is what they had to say...
"Dear x

I have spoken to our Data Support team and they have provisioned your
handset, this will take 24 hrs to be actioned before your try to view your
emails please switch your h.set off and then back on.

Hi, I've applied for the O2 Account Management site but am yet to hear back with login info etc. Has anyone heard anymore? Is this likely to be an account problem for me? l'm on contract. Are they reactivating the ability to use anything on the net as it was before?

Guys,
The problem started for me about a month ago. Just like that my email client stopped connecting to the pop3 server. I have spent a few frustrated hours speeking to lots of exceptionally untechnical people at o2 but have finally found the solution. A guy at data services solved the problem. To get to data services ask to be transfered to network services first. DONT call the premium rate number, I got round it. Eventually.

For wap GSM browsing the old settings work:
Dialup Number: +447712927927
IP Address - 193.113.200.195

For email connection you need different GSM data bearer settings:
Dialup Number: +447712932932
IP Address - blank (test this, blank works for me so Im not going to play with it any more)

Don't even bother emailing them, they really take the mick with their replys.

I am using a nokia 6800. I will not check this forum and it does not seem to email me to let me know I have new messages so if you need to contact me please do so via:
somethingrandom at gkim dot co dot uk

You might want to go to...
http://ota.o2.co.uk/O2UK/index.jsp
to get the right settings for your phone. Under settings type, select "Basic WAP". The settings it sends can then be added as a new data profile on your phone (this means that you won't mess up your existing WAP settings). Then simply change the phone number on the new data profile to the one mentioned by somethingrandom above. It works fine on my SE T68i.
