> My K700i.I Did Try!
Bookmark topic
Well after a week of trying to live with the crap Orange firmware it was with a heavy heart that I 14 day returned my SE K700i. I was going to get my money back and pay another £50 for the unbranded handset from CPW but was talked into trying the Nokia 6230 (still with another 14 day option).
Have to say I think I have mad the right decision.....yep I really miss that lovely big screen but the SE's silly flaws do seem apparant now. Now I can have a midi or mp3 sms alert (like this V much)....Now I can take a picture without sounding like I'm hitting someone in the face with a frying pan in a cartoon......More importantly I have a phone with a nice large font set...yeah the K700 screen is nice but all the fonts seemd tiny to me and the size of the calender was pathetic!
Am sure I am going to have issues with the 6230 (am going to have to spend £20 on a cover to stop sqeaking and why no attachments on e mails) but first impressions are favourable....yeah there ia slight echo on the 6230 but that 2 second delay on the SE drove me nuts (apparently this would be on the unbranded as well). Will see how I go and may still return the Nokia for the SE but up to now am happy on the dark side.

I advise you try an unbranded one before makin the final decision...a lot of features are dissapointin in the branded one. And the display is very imp mate...you can view 176*144 res at correct size, much larger portion of vga/extended pics will be displayed, displays more info like battery life and signal strength even durin games and stuff , you can play all s60 games and more fun in general. The screen of 6230 is kinda dull for a 65k. Dont forget 3d games. Also from wat i've heard camera of k7 is better+panaroma option.

Games are not an issue....my ebayed DS due tuesday!!.
Totally agree about the 6230 screen it is really small and pretty dull and the SE screen blows it away....HOWEVER.....even though the Nokia screen is smaller all the fonts are so much more legible. For example if I put a note on a contact with the SE it is really tiny and is pretty pointless on such a large screen. The camera on the SE is really nice...BUT THAT BLOODY NOISE!!...there was no way to silence that not even with the profile trick.
IMO if the Nokia had the K700i screen and camera it would be perfect. I really really wanted to love this phone but was frustrated in so many ways....oh yeah I know its an old issue but the MMC is a valid point in the Nokia's favour. I suppose its horses for courses but am always going to be disappointed when a phone lets you take a video on a lush screen but will not allow you to choose the noise it makes when you get an SMS.

yeah you should try the s700, although the camera sound can only be silenced after a firmware update, & I guess all your text size issues will be resolved with it.

The problem with the S700i is that you cant get it on Ornage. The only way would be to get one sim-free and I doubt that he wants to pay £500 for it when he could get a K700i or 6230 on a free upgrade.

i went from my 6230 to the k700i.I still have my 6230, i like both phones, each on has different features i like which the other hasnt, now if only there was a hybrid of the two
software branding sucks. a friend has k700i on orange and although there is the kinda cool background 3 icons (Which are handy, unfortunate u cant turn them off), the fact that orange have removed the more button, sucks!

Nokia 6230 lags in one more way.....it has upper limit on the size of the video recording - set at 2 MB (4 mins).......but SE K700i.....doesnt has ne such limitation........u can just go on n on n on........
Till date the max video wich i have made using K700i is around 20 mins.......still with loads of memory left enuf to take up another 20 mins easily......
Another restriction is on Java Application download size - set at 128 kB....dont think ne such restriction on k700i.....have downloaded a no. of big java games onto k700i.....
These restrictions will not relax even after u add an MMC.....watever be the size.......so basically......one can say.....SE didnt do justice to K700i....by not givin memory slot - though havent felt its need till now....but then Nokia hasnt done justice to MMC......wat will u use MMC in it for.....for small applications........?
But the 6230 has one gud thing - Edge technology.....
its pickin up in country.....with two operators implementing it big time......i kno i am gonna miss it...
But then, I intend to change my phone within an year to the latest P-XXX available at that time n i hope SE makes dem EDGE enabled.......
ciao,
Gary
