I damaged my t610 badly- one of the aluminium corners. I noticed that nice brushed surface of metal is in fact thin layer over not so nice looking metal part. I thought the surface is brushed or something, but never guessed it's coated. This message was posted from a T610

i didnt know but its no great suprise. its just one of them things.
i used to work in an aluminium foundry and it does look awful until its treated and cleaned. that metal under the good stuff might be aluminium as well.

alumiunum looks like crap when you ding it cause it reacts very quickly with oxygen and produces alumium oxide

it looks nice when its treated though

so i'd say we still dont know whether its aluminum or not

And wats wrong with aluminium oxide?? Its a colorless protective layer to prevent aluminium from corrosion(otherwise its very high in the reactivity series of metals) or you may just see your phone's aluminium body corrode away

When AL gets a ding it looks pretty ugly and it is hard to reverse that ding.
