I have 6mnths old t610. It seems to me that in last month, LCD got brighter than it used to be i.e. colors are paler. I would like to know, is this because of the low temperatures or just screen getting old and degrading performance?

Its because of the STN display. I have a motorola c350 with a similar but smaller display. STN displays are cheaper and lower in quality than the TFT displays.
There is no solution but to get the display changed. Nothing you do can reverse it.
