The type of car is irrelavent and before anyone asks the distance is the same both ways but the question DID NOT state the actual distance

I would say the average speed would be 36.6665 mph. The question only states two trips at 1 hour each way, so 44 add 29.333 divide 2. I think hehe :-D cya This post was posted from a T68i

It is one journey

One way -----> at 44 mph
the back the same way the same distance
So if you want to consider time coming back would take longer as they are travelling slower!!

Yeah, I'd go with 36.6666 too.... it's pretty logical isn't it?

It doesn't really matter how far the distance was. If you want the average of something, then you just add them all up and divide them by how many you added up....

Thats what I thought but think of it like this;

If the journey is say 88 miles on the way there (at 44 mph) it would take 2 hours and on the way back (at 29.333 mph) it would take 3 hours.

This makes the total journey 176 miles in 5 hours. The average speed of this is 35.2 mph.

And you can change the time to whatever but the speed always comes back to 35.2 mph

Waddya think!??!
