Hi,

although new to the site I have a question. These three SE phones do not support older SIM cards. Any idea if this bug is alread fixed?

For those that do not know, there is no GSM recommendation stating directly or indirectly that new phones do not have to support older SIM cards.
I write this because the operators make 20 Euro in Greece for replacing a SIM card and lie to consumers that the card is old and it must be replaced.

The worse lie in telecoms is backward incompatibility.

How old is your sim card? Is it a contract or a pay as you go sim?

This is the first I've heard of such issues. I always thought that as long as your sim isn't one of those huge 'credit card' sized ones you're OK.

I bet this is possibly because sims older than 3-4 years old won't support the use of newer mobile technolgies like GPRS and MMS possibly?

In Sweden this is a known problem on all new phones.
Old sim-cards that are 5V and most from 1998 don´t work in new phones. The phone gets laggy, drains battery and so on.

New sim-cards are 3V and works fine. Here in Sweden you can change it for free

The SIM is since 1996.

It is not locked in any way. I have tried it in numerous phones and it works fine.

I asked SE to fix the phone and they were not that happy.
In fact the P-910i can read the SIM nice and easy.

I know about the volts story. However, backward compatibility is an issue. I told SE that I will officially inform the GSM association and he ETSI organization that the make a FALSE STATEMENT if they insist thet their phone is fully compliant to GSM. IT IS NOT.

This is the truth.

By the way, in their manual they do not state that in case you receive the indication "insert SIM' it means old SIM card.
Do you wonder why?
Simply because this would make them partly compliant to the recommendations.... and they do not like such indications...
