> P910a problem( kinda)
Bookmark topic
Ok, let me explain my situation. I have a P910a and after installing tracker, I installed an xp theme and xp icons for the theme. Afterward, I got a message saying to restart the phone. I did and the phone couldn't get past the startup animation. I restarted again. Same thing. I Took out the battery. Took out the MS Duo. Nothing. Stuck. So I got on SE's site and looked for the P910a update site. It wasn't up yet. Just the P910i update was available. I decided to try it anyway.... and it worked. I did a backup afterward and all was normal. In my system info it still said P910a. In the service menu it still lists the 850 band instead of the 900 band. Well, last night I decided to do a backup and try to update on the P910a site. I figured having P910a firmware was probably best. I went through all the steps just fine and it started the update. Got through the initial "downloading" first part then stopped. It gave me an "error communicating with device" message. I tried a couple more times but I can't get it to work. Everything still works fine, but now I'm worried that I won't be able to update when I really need to. Any thoughts or suggestions?

This seems to be a difficult question. I suggest that you contact Se-support before you do anything further so that you don't doing things worse.

p910a is a P910 but is optimized for use in america, for use with the gsm bands that some carriers use in the US.
The P910i is basically a european version and the p910c if for the chinese market.

FYI. When I tried to update my 910a using the website, I received the "error communicating with device" message quite a few times. SE finally responded to my problem with the following suggestions. When I followed these instructions, my update worked flawlessly.
"... If you get an error message when using Sony Ericsson Update Service, it may be possible that you need to start the process all over. Some common reasons are listed below:
- The phone is not fully charged. Sony Ericsson Update Service cannot be used unless the phone is at least 50 percent charged.
- The phone is not switched off and properly inserted in the Desk Stand. If you have the charger connected to the Desk Stand, please disconnect it.
- Antivirus and firewall software are not switched off. They may interfere with Update Service.
- Check whether the relevant COM port is checked in PHONE CONNECTION LINK. Make sure that this port is unchecked. Also while doing this; please check that the port is not enabled in PHONE MONITOR OPTIONS from CONTROL PANEL.
If we can be of any assistance in the future please do not hesitate to call one of our representatives @ 1-866-SONY-ERICSSON(1-866-766-9374)."
I hope this helps. In my experience the last item about the COM ports was the problem.
