Have you tried DBpoweramp ?
http://www.dbpoweramp.com
No matter which software you use, you can only get 'kb' sizes with extremely low quality settings.
You can convert the mp3 to mp4. That will reduce the size a bit, you need to download the FAAC mp4 codec at the codec central page

What exactly is not to your satisfaction with the programs you've tried? File size? Sound quality? Speed of encoding?
All MP3 encoders will make a file of the same size at the same bitrate. That's down to the MP3 format, not the encoder...
If you want a smaller sile size, encode at a lower bitrate, but you'll get a lower quality file too...
That's how compression works.

if you want smaller file sizes, convert them to the ogg vorbis format. this cuts down the size to a third of an mp3 file.
but if its for your phone, you would need to have one of the P-series phones to install and use the oggplayer.

I use Ogg player and it's great. It cuts down a 4,7 MB song down to 1,80 MB and the quality is ok.

use Diet Mp3
http://www.eniacjia.com this program shrinks a 5 mb mp3 file into 500 kb and with less loss of quality

Hi guys, thanks for all the replies, I have a similar query does the ogg player works for K700i? If not, is there a program tat works? I think the K700i model only accepts mp3 n midi..
Btw, any idea which takes up more space.. mp3 or midi?
Sorry, Im a total ignoramus on this... ;P
As to the prior reply on Diet MP3 player, thinks the free download only works for a certain limit rite? Any idea on how to "register" it?
cheerios!

Diet mp3 is horrible, just not enough options to customize the mp3 according to our needs.
mp3 is smaller than midi for the same length of audio. They are completely different audio formats so they shouldnt be compared with each other.
No ogg does not work on k700 and no player has been created yet although i wish they did.

most of my mp3s are already about 600kb-1.5mb when I get them

& I dont see much of the difference in quality between 128bitrate & 40 apart from the loudness. is it just me?
