Hey all,

Merry christmas for starts and hope you all got some nice shiny new toys

I got a p910i th other day that was voda locked. Its now unlocked but i can not set the MMS or GPRS to anything bar voda's rubbish stuff and i cant find a way around making them read only

Is the only way to get rid of Voda's stuff to have it reflashed?? If so and i take it to a CPW service centre will they flash it with the new voda stuff and thus lock it back to voda as well or would it just remove thier guff??

Is there anyway with the T28 cable and some software to remove the read only bits without a re-flash or the USB cable???

Thanks all and Merry Christmas

hi, welcome to esato and a merry christmas.

i am not quite sure what you mean about the MMS and GPRS. You will be able to only use vodafone settings if that as your carrier. As your phone is unlocked you can use another network's services if you want. If you want your phone unbranded then you will need to get it reflashed. However i dont think you can do this with a T28 cable you will need to take it to someone with the correct servicing equipment or an SE service centre.

As gbrooks3 said, your phone will use vodaphones' gateway for GPRS internet access but if you download the opera web browser and use that instead of the default browser, you'll never have to see all of voda's crap.

Hello all and thank you for the advice

I have had her unlocked and can use any sim that i wish but its the branding of the software on the phone that is causing and issue with the settings being read only and un-deletable.

Does anyone know if i take it to a CPW service centre if when they re-flash if they would remove the voda stuff on it or if it would still be there and be locked again as well when reflashed??

Is there anywhere near liverpool and manchester that would offer this kind of service at all as i take it a reflash wouldnt take more than 10minutes if i gave them a clean phone and had backed it all up prior to giving it in??

Its really annoying now as ive got MMS's that i cant download

Thanks again all and Merry Christmas to you all

The CPW may unbrand it for you if you convince them there is a problem - i imagine you will have to pay.

i offer this service but i live in the south. However i am travelling up north to lemmington spa on the 27th if that is close to you?

I live in Warringotn near manchester.

Think i may have to have a quiet word next time im in their manchester servicecentrethen as i do work for them and can offer some advice to help them with things as well

Thank you for the advice GBrookes.

Its really annoying now as i paid for the phone to be unlocked and its kinda half a job done really as unlocking to me means it can be used on any service provider for all the services on the phone

Ahwell i cant complain as its a dam good phone and the S700i is going on sale soon as its just not up the job really.

Thanks again people and Merry Christmas to you all

Yeah, the WAP settings lock is a real sneaky one to force people to use Vodafone Live! Network unlocking will NOT sort this at all.

I got a generic P910i on voda from a local retailer (£80 more expensive but far, far, better.)

P.S. None of the staff in 3 Voda stores in Aberdeen knew about the WAP lock, and neither did the area rep OR tech helpline.

Voda think they're being clever, but it will just put people off buying their handsets next time. Orange and T-Mob also use branded f/w, but without the WAP locks.

O2 phones are unbranded.

If you live in Warrington why not try the SE service centre in Warrington? I had a firmware upgrade on a P800 done there and they obligingly removed the Vodafone branding at the same time

Hi mate.

I had the same problem. I bought a voda branded p910i, but was gutted to find out that i couldnt change the mms settings (after spending 12 hours copying all my sms across)

The carphonewarehouse didnt have a clue so i sold it and bought an unbranded one.

(Sold the voda one on ebay for £340 and bought an unbranded p910i, again, on ebay for £240!!)

You say you live in warrington, I seem to recall bunking off school to go to a place in warrington called novo digicom, they turned my old t68 to a t68i

Have you tried them??

Yeah i was gunna take it there but they arent there anymore, well at least not customer facing anymore

Is there an SE centre in liverpool or Manchester does anyone know as im thinking of flogging it now its near useless to me without MMS and GPRS.

Ah well may investigate further but fear it may be a dead end and may stick it in the loot for £300 and pass her on.

Thanks for the help guys, its making me hate Vodafone even more than ever since peckham started doing their adverts lol.
