> V-Rally Controlled By Jog-Dial
Bookmark topic
Hi there,
Have been able to get V-Rally to be controlled with the jog-dial. It's not fully ready yet, as the jog-dial works in the wrong direction (oops). Will hopefully get it fixed by tonight, so you can have a little play around with what is a great game that was always let down by it's controls.

Ooooh yeah! I might even consider buying the full version if the jog dial controls work ok
Which would make a change from downloading naughty full versions from the net like I normally do (ahem)

I mean, it's not like Esato is somewhere to discuss Sony Ericsson phones anyway is it?
PM me if you would like to know where you can get hold of the file instead.

OK, after having a closer look at the stuff i posted, he seems to think it's ok as it isn't a "hacked" version, rather just an edited file.
Anyways, here's what I posted originally:
OK, preliminary version, i know it's not good yet, but it's a start. Please note that this is a VERY early version, so please don't expect miracles. At present, accelerate is mapped to pressing the jog dial down, and the steering is done by moving the jogdial in the direction you want to go. There are no brakes

I realise this isn't ideal, and eventually it will be mapped to camera -> accelarate and browser -> brake.
Now for the fun stuff:
First, creat a new text file in the text editor of your choice (textedit, notepad etc). Then copy and paste the following into it:
Quote:
In game: 0 0 320 208
// VRALLY
// In-race controls tweaking file
// This should be stuck in the same directory as e.g. control.scr, ie root of the data.
// You can put comments in with // like this.
// See how it's split up into "methods" one of which is default and some buttons make it into "everymethod".
// Commands:
// Button left top width height
// Joystick left top width height size_of_deadzone size_of_maxzone
// Other stuff is obvious.
// try emailing me.
DefaultMethod:

// simple mapping of console buttons to different places on phone, the buttons are near the right

Then save this file as "ui.txt" (without the quotes) and then transfer it to (install disk):/system/apps/vrally/data/ overwriting the old ui.txt file on your phone.
Then start up v-rally as normal, and go to player settings -> configure controls. From there make sure that you select a control layout that puts the jod dial at the TOP of the screen.
Now start a race and *hopefully* be succesful!
If you have any comments for improvement, or any suggestions to make, please post them in this thread
Happy Racing

If you want the scan codes, try
jogdial up
*
jogdial down
jogdial down
*
jogdial down
*
Then service tests and then keys. It'll display key scans when you press buttons. Yes, you're right about the cam and browser buttons, it's what I had in mind originally anyway!
Here's the scan codes for those buttons:
Button Scan Code
Jog Up 165
Jog Down 166
Jog Towards 177
Jog Away 178
Camera 181
Browser 180
