Hi all..
I got the V800 here in hong kong and I have some questions I hope someone can help me as this is my first 3G phone.
In Hong Kong, every operator tells me that a 3G phone from another operator will most probably not work on their network. However I am wondering why... isn't all WCDMA phone should work on a WCDMA network?
Are they only refering to the online menu like today on 3? I thought online menu are all web base and are only webpages... if so, why would one phone work and another doesnt?
Thank you for your help in advance... I am asking these questions because I am trying to figure out which network I should join...

The phone should work on another WCDMA network if there is a roaming agreement or if it is unlocked and you use a SIM card that is 3g enabled from another operator that has a WCDMA network.
The web (WAP) settings are particular to the operator's network that you are accessing and will depend on what you want to access and if it is allowed.
Other 3g standards like CDMA2000 will nt work on a WCDMA/GSM phone.

in GSM you have 4 frequenty bands 850, 900, 1800 and 1900
with 3G you have I don't know how many frequenties already. Korea uses 1800mhz and here in Europe 2000mhz

Can i ask how much u bought ur V800 in HK in HK$? Got chinese or english platform? Vodafone platform?.
U have to made some settings ( GPRS settings ) in order to use the 3G mode. For example if u are using 3 network, then u need the settings for 3 and vice versa..

Maybe you can find in some shops. Personaly don't think V800 is officially for sale in HK, as V800 is Vodafone distributed. The 3G operators there are Hutchison 3 and Smartone.

i got my phone and unlocked it in the UK so didnt get it in hk
so it has the vodafone logo and stuff...
for people who may want to get it... the phone doesnt work too well with either 3 or smartone. There are quite a few things you cant see from say "Todayon3" or "Smartone in".

i was just in uk for several days so didnt have time to look around... i just got it at vodafone in london...
