I purchased a P800 from Fido on boxing day and now i'm wondering if i've done the right thing. I'm almost thinking of returning it and going for something else.
Before I begin my phone software/firmware is: R1D
The PIM / PDA features of the phone are nice.
The vibration on the phone is almost non-existant.
I don't believe the phone is capable of doing mp3 ringers
When it's on polyphonic ring the ringtones are barely audible,
You may as well forget about the speaker phone unless you're in a library because it's just that quiet.
T
here's no predictive text for keypad entry of text messages. I realize that I can write on the screen but i've found t9 is somewhat faster and if I can use the keypad and T9 I could use it with one hand.
Can all of these be addressed by a firmware upgrade or are these just drawbacks of the P800?
thx

So far I think you've mentioned every flaw possible on the p800

.
No T9 (without external software)
Speakerphone is OK for me. but yes, a bit quiet.

Have i missed anything??? I've only had the phone for 3 days now.
I have a PDA (axim x3). It's not too great because of battery life when I add the blue tooth card but everything else is okay on it. I'm beginning to wonder if I should just return the P800 and get something else, something that's more of a "phone" with PIM features, ie the SE Z600 or the Mot V400 etc.
what do you guys think?

@trader37: Your frmware is certainly old. My P800's ringers are loud enough. No, you cant use mp3 files for any alerts. Yup, no t9 built-in the p800. Methinks you didnt examine your needs or the capabilities of the device adequately b4 buying. Yes, methinks you return it & get a more normal phone with data capabilities you can use with your PDA :)

it looks you're dissapointed in the P800 so I think you should return it, I have the P800 for more then a week now and I'm happy with it, I used to have a SE Z600 (still lying around here) and I don't want to go back to it, I only miss the 65k screen. I also miss the option to access all the sms folders with the flip closed, I only can see the inbox.
but the P800 is still a great phone, even for its age.
if you're going for the Z600, i have to warn you that the operating system is a bit slow, and when typing an sms, the characters don't update instantly, I never got used to it. and it's a bit on the bulky side, it's as thick as the P800.

The low poly ringtones problem you're having - I'm having exactly the same problem with my P900! Some polytones are plenty loud enough (not necessarily the ones the phone came with), whilst others are barely audible. I don't know if these are properties of some polytones or a phone problem I'm not sure, I too would like to hear an explanation of this too!

Well the ringtones are a problem no matter what phone you use. I have a P900, T630 and Z600. I have to say that all ringtones have different loudness levels, no matter what phone You use. So if you pick one pick the one the rings the loudest. You can always search for more ringtones online and try'em out.

Just a quick update and closure to the thread.... I took the P800 back because it just wasn't my thing. My Axim is a much better PDA and my Siemens M55 had better reception etc than this thing. I returned and it and opted for a SE T610 instead. Now this is one sexy phone! Anyway, thanks for the feedback
