I heard about SE official online update for the K700i, is this the same as upgrading the firmware(when you take it to a SE dealer and 'flash' upgrade the firmware?) of the phone?
In other words, what does this online update do to the phone?
Thanks

basically the SE online update service or SEUS, is a very protected way of writting new firmware to the flash chip in side the phone. The online update is protected by SE becuse of committments they have with networks.
SE dealers can use different methods, There is the offical EMMA II server and there are other solutions that work through reverse engineering and sniffing.

yes of course. well SE obviously try and protect their phones software. So it is difficult to write and also read from a phones flash chip. In the new SE phones for example the ARM.
so to get firmware you would need to take a direct dump from the chip or using a service tool method of sending a kind of trojan that when inside the phone takes control of the phone.
This is all what i believe to be the case, not official of course.
and then it get s much much much much more complicated with RSA.

no i dont pretend to be an expert and i dont develop any tools for this, all i do is push some buttons. But from doing a bit of reading this is what i understand to be true.
i also know there was a problem that to unlock and unbrand te New SE phones you could only use EMMA II. The server solutions used this way but know others have found a differnt method.

ok, i can understand most of what you've said... so the online update is the same as firmware updates...
but this online thing requires a usb desk stand... so is it worth buying one just to upgrade the phone? this is obviously on of SE's tactics to sell more desk stands...
or is it best to upgrade the firmware at a dealer? since the warranty is still valid they should upgrade the firmware for free?
how long does this online upgrade take?
I heard somewhere that through flashing you can take out Network operators customisations to the phone... like on an Orange network only k700 the menu is an orange colour... and by flashing install the bare/original setup without customisations... is this possible/illegal?
Thanks

If it is still under warranty, the service centre will upgrade your phone for free. Removing the customisation will void your warranty.

does it void the warranty with the network provider (Orange) or with sony ercisson?
is the online update available for any other sonyercisson phones? if so, which ones?
