> p9xx vs v800 which would you choose?

hi i think it would be a good topic to see if people would rather have a 3g phone the v800 with its video calling features or a 2g the p9xx with its symbian smartphone software?
please say which you would prefer and reasons?

I don't see how the handsets you mention can be accurately compared, they are vastly different in terms of their functionality and the markets they were designed for. Comparing the Pxxx series and the Motorola A1000 would be far more worthwhile, in determining a preference for 2.5G or 3G, as both are smartphones.

it is a fair comaprison as people who like se phones and prefer the more technologicaly advanced models would bel ooking to buy one of these two probably.

They are vastly different products though. If one is looking for a handset that can utilise Word documents one would go for the P900, but what if one wants a 3G handset with smartphone capabilities? Neither fit the bill. Comparing the Pxxx series with the V800 is like comparing apples with oranges in my opinion. I wouldn't buy the Pxxx because it was a 2.5G handset, but because I actually needed its capabilities. Hence I don't see how the comparison is relavent, if one is trying to compare attitudes towards 3G.

I find the comparison baseless myself. Fortunately, in my case, the line is clear. I need PDA/smartphone capabilities & 3g is non-existent in my environment. Pretty clear case for me, I'd say.

I have to agree with scotsboyuk... actually I hate these comparison threads because they start with 2 or 3 specific models of phone and then try and fit criteria as to which one to choose whereas these threads should start with the criteria and then a phone can be found to fit those criteria and as we know, there is so much choice.
having had both these phones I found that neither fitted my criteria.
In regards to the V800 I didn't like the 3G, except for 3G data speeds which proved to be expensive so when you take 3G away from the V800 you are left with a mix betwen the Z600 (clamshell phone) and the K700 (menu/user interface) so I would choose the K700 in preference to V800.
in regards to the P series, well if it doesnt have 3g and you want 3g then you're stuffed. you wouldn't just buy the P910 because its a smartphone if you also want 3g. I also found the P series just a tad larger than I want to carry whereas the i-mate JAM I am currently using is just perfect with much the same functionality albeit in a different operating system
as you can see you just can't say "this phone or that" because it just doesnt make sense. As I said at the start, it really comes down to your crietria and use for a device and THEN you can start short listing devices that meet that criteria
