i my phone has been acting up again,first of all suddenly when opening contacts it would only type numbers instead of letter making it difficult to get to numbers wanted,tried to restart the off button was stuck,took the battery out restarted batter sign just white so had to plug into charger and then it was full.

How is the format done? Is the master reset same like in kseries?

dunno abt k-series, in p9, master reset is in the control panel > other.
format is in the service menu (jo up, *, jog down, jog down, *, jog down, *) > service functions...
