> Automatic Turn On/Off P900
Bookmark topic
Is there any way or software that allows me to config P900 so that it automatic turns on/off at the preset time? My previous phone (Panasonic GU87) has the feature, which I found very useful. I could program it to turn off at 11:00pm and turn on 8:00am, so that I can enjoy uninterrupted sleep. The time between battery recharge is also extended.

The way round this would be to press the "On/Off" button when you cradle the phone at 11pm...................
Then again as you take the phone out of the cradle at 8am,....
I have tried this myself first before posting & i can report it works fine, it should work at other times of the day too, but i havn't had time to test as yet.

Thanks for the cute answer. However, an automatic way is what I am looking for, as I put in the title of my original post. Thanks.

@Pachy: Can tell you're back

Where've you been? Ah missed ya!
Erm, as for the automatic way of turning it off, you could always write a little app yourself, if you're familiar with C, as I am sure there's a function call for "phone_off". Don't think you'll have much luck with "phone_on" though, as the phone runs NOTHING when it's off.

Is it really that difficult to press a button on the side of a phone to turn it off? If you're worried about being disturbed in your sleep, there's a number of things you can do. First, and most obvious would be to turn on Flight Mode. This will prevent any radio activity on the phone and thus nobody will be able to call you. If you're worried about battery life, turn off bluetooth and IrDA as well. This will keep battery usage to a minimum and your phone will have around 1-2% less battery life in the morning, which i'm sure you can live with.
The other alternative is to put your phone into Silent Mode, and make sure Vibration is off. This way you will still be able to recieve messages whilst you're sleeping, but your phone will not disturb you.
I do not know of any automatic phone on/off utility, and i agree with the previous thread; you can't expect a phone to be able to switch itself on again from a software utility, when not even the OS itself isn't running. You would require some form of hardware clock that would send the same signal the power button sends at a specified time.
I think you're better off just switching it off/on manually for now
Hope this helps.

I beleive everybody knows that it's not difficult to press the on/off button, but that's not the point at all.
When you start using this phone for everything including waking you up in the morning, you see that you can't turn the Pxxx off as you can with every other phone (at least i've never known another recent phone that doesn't turn on automaticaly when you set the alarm).
Everybody says that this is because when it's off, it's real off, not consuming any battery at all. Ok, that's great, but what power would a switched-off-able-to-wake-up P910 consume over one nigth comparing to being in flight mode?
The flight mode or silent mode with no vibration is no alternative to switching it off, we just have to say that this great phone isn't able to "wake up" by any application instead of asking why would anybody need this function...

It's a Smartphone, not a Nokia. Get over it!
Looks like you'll have to get to Argos and buy yourself a £10 alarm clock. SE try to save you battery life by making a phone truly off, which i thank them for.
I suggest you get in touch with SE and ask them to integrate a 'Hibernate' mode into their next release of UIQ.
Edit: You cannot expect a phone to 'Wake-up' when it is not sleeping. When it's off, it's off. Sorry about my blunt attitude, but you're asking for something which is not possible, so you're going to have to accept that. SE probably didn't introduce this 'wake-up' feature, because they integrated Flight Mode instead.
Set your alarm clock on the phone and put it into Flight Mode. Nobody can contact you, but your alarm clock will function as normal. The battery drain overnight is minimal, and you will not notice a difference.
Hope this helps.

I find that one of the P910's main drawbacks is that the alarms will not activate when it is switched off. I used to have the T68i which did do this. Of course, the T68i did not have an automatic on/off though. The last phone I had that could do that was a NEC P4 (analogue). Another cool thing with the P4 was when the battery alarm bleeped during a call you could unclip the battery and put a new one on without dropping the call. That's something a modern phone will never do!

It's not too hard to understand though, it's like asking your PC to wake you up at a specified time when it's turned off. It's just not going to happen.
Sorry guys
