Can the standard CST-13 charger in the UK work on any Sony Ericsson handset anywhere in the world? even for handsets purchased in Australia?

yes, no problem, with a suitable adaptor to make it fit into the different wall sockets we have in oz of course

Careful though. I noticed that the US charger has the same model number (CST-13) but they are obviously incompatible.

as far as I know they are multi voltage, its just the plug they are supplied with which changes

the CST-13 supports 110-240volts and certainly I use everything in UK/Europe or back home in Oz without a second thought

Certainly when i was in the US, the standard uk cst13 worked. The only difference being that the lower mains voltage caused the phone to charge slower, a full charge taking about 30 mins longer.
If you're that concerned test the charger with a voltmeter first.
