What would the best choice be between these two handhelds? I'm leaning towards the P910i. But is there any really clever features that the 7100 has that the P910 doesn't have?

I have both handsets. After using the P910i for a while, the 7100 feels like a piece of plastic junk! Seriously, it would not be that bad if there was no P series, but RIM are way behind SE on their handsets.

Key disadvantages of the 7100:

- No touchscreen! You keep trying to press "buttons" on the screen with your fingernail, or the top of your ballpoint, and of course nothing happens.

- No handwriting recognition

- The typing is awful: what sort of company makes an e-mail phone aimed squarely at corporate customers then asks them to use an entirely new form of predictive text? Most of the directors at my company have barely figured out T9. It's a daft idea, especially as the P910 manages a full qwery keyboard in half the area.

- Small screen, low resolution.

- No pictures, no camera, no video.

- No mp3's (I thank the Sony in Sony Ericsson for surprisingly decent sound quality in the P910) - never seen anyone listening to a 7100.

- The jogdial on the 7100 is a poor second behind the P series. It just scrolls up, down and clicks in, whereas the P series do this and also click forward and backward. The 7100 has had to add a separate button under the jogdial just to replace the back-click on the P910.

- There are lots of minor disadvantages too; it's hard to switch off, you need to buy lots of new chargers (car, USB, BT headset) if you have been using SE for a while, etc...

So what's good about the 7100?

- It's a fair bit lighter than the P910

- It will sync my calendar over GPRS (as well as e-mail of course), which Smartner does not do for the P910...

When the BlackBerry Connect software is available for the P910 (NB this is network dependent), I can't think of a reason why the 7100 would be better.

Hmmm. Quite a long post - I guess I must feel strongly.

Hi Sorry for jumping in, have you tried Mightyphone for syncing your calendar, tasks etc via GPRS. I discovered it on Handango a few months ago, you can sync your desktop and p900/910i via their server and gprs.

Alan, you're right that is a bit of a hi-jack. But thanks - not seen MightyPhone before, just read their website and it looks good... unfortunately no e-mail (so I would end up with two products), and no notes (which I use all the time). Also no support for corporate server. But it does look like a very useful tool for many.
