All of SE's phones (except the P series) utilise proprietary operating systems. Moreover, SE does not publish API's (Application Programming Interface) or SDK's (Software development kits) for phones such as the Kxxx/Txxx series.

These phone can be programmed in a very limited way through Java (or through the Mophun API), but that's about it. A Java programmer may be able to make the phone unstable (very rare though) but we'll probably never be able to execute a “dangerous” application on our phones!

Cheers!

Anand's view is entirely correct. Nokia series 60 and the SE P series use the Symbian OS, which is well documented, complete operating system. Symbian can be programmed in a low level language such as C++ and has full access to the OS & it's environment.

The K series can only be programmed through Java, which is designed to be a secure programming language. Morphun (used on the T series) is rather more low level and it may be possible to produce a virus of some kind, but I doubt anyone would target such a small audience when they can target the widespread Symbian OS instead.

From where can you learn to program a symbian? Can someone point me in the right direction? This message was posted from a K500

you are best seeking via google. dont forget though that the P series version of symbian is completley different from the Nokia series as is the Sendo version (although sendos is closest to Nokia) you would need to program one for each version...
