> z500a unlocked in Cingular

Well today a friend from work showed me she just got a brand new z500a from Cingular, she had to sign like a 2 yr contract and paid like 70 USD for 2 z500a. So I was looking at it, it's OK, too big for my taste, anyway I went to the SIMLOCK menu and found that it was unlocked, WTF?, so I told her she could put any SIM card and it would work, and she was happy because she travels a lot, so I dunno why Cingular is selling the phone unlocked, maybe because of the 2 yr contract???

they provide is unlocked as far as I have seen and so are most nokias and motorolas. Maybe they just aren't afraid of customers using their phones elsewhere.

I used my unlocked T616 all over Europe for about two months and that wouldn't have been possible if it were locked. So thank you Cingular for providing unlocked tri-band phones.

Once there was the 1900band for ATT, Cingular and T-mobile. Now Cingular is expanding the 850 network. That is to no advantage to us users, because most phones are triband and 850 or 900. So foreign visitors can't jump on it, because they have no 850. other users can't roam on it without the 850 on their phone and 850 triband phone is useless travelling and hitting 900 networks. Now that pisses me off.
Sure they have unlocked phones, but you are pretty much stuck to them.
