Bookmark topic
I've finally managed to get my P910i un-branded by a UK Company, who charged me just £30 (GBP) including return post next day!
A big must for anyone who has a branded P910, and wants to have generic software, I noticed a big difference in the phone, esp the speed of the phone when writing SMS, Much faster!
http://www.aboveconnection.co.uk/ Highly recommended for anyone who wants to have the phone unbranded.

After the phone has been unbranded, can the firmware then be updated using the SonyEricsson online update service without any problems (e.g. the update may fail as the IMEI number indicates the firmare should be Orange and then, of course, it is not and then fail).
Also, what are your opening times? And, are there any parking meters in the area as I will most probably drive to your shop.
Also,
Does the £25 instore fee include unlocking the phone aswell as installing the original firmware?
Thank you.

hi,
yes you can use the update service,
there is ample parking,
including a large shopping centre carpark within 2 mins walk
unlocking and debranding together for same fee.
thanks

What happens if the phone stops working and you need to send it back to the people you bought it from? Surely they won't accept responsibility for phone you've had flashed.

It would most probably be sent to a central repair conpany, and they wouldn't know (or care) that it had once been branded to an operator. Orange care might be an issue, as it's done direct by Orange, but if it's Voda or T-Mob, the repair people wouldn't notice anyway

Far be it from me to question aboveconnection, but I was told by an extremely reliable source within CPW that the Update Service is not usable after the unbranding, as the Update Service checks your CDA number against your IMEI to determine if it was a network-locked handset and is allowed to use the SEUS. As your CDA number will change if you have the handset unbranded, this will not match up when checked by SEUS, and it will therefore not allow the upgrade.
Sounds feasible to me, though I must confess I haven't tried it yet as there is no FW update to R3A04.

I believe your source is correct. It used to be ok before the SEUS update service evolved and started to check imei numbers. I was able to unbrand any P900 i wanted and then carry on upgrading. However now phone that i decustomize using exactly the same tool as "aboveconnection" cannot upgrade. only use of the recovery option is permitted. It is nigh impossible for users to "trick" SEUS - its bullet proof.
i have not tested it with the P910i however, but i see no reason why the same wont apply.
**maybe if EMMA II is used to unbrand the phone i.e. CPW service centres upgrading by SEUS maybe possible. I dont have EMMA II yet and i am pretty sure
aboveconnection does not either.

I believe this is in fact true, having spoken to a friend who is in the mobile business.
The SE system does check the IMEI to match it with the original CDA.
We'll soon find out when the next generic F/W upgrade comes out, because if this is true, all the users with a branded handset that has been changed to generic will not be allowed to update any more .....
Just yet another reason not to buy branded handsets - cheapest is not always best in the long run

In this case, customers will be offered 6 months free upgrades, if they cannot use SEUS
we do have EMMA 2 however we dont use it often.
