i bought a a GA628 from someone here at esato and it arrived yesterday morning. i had a bit of a play with it and it was fine. i ended up falling asleep because i was up playing cards all night and while i was asleep knocked the phone off the bed. now the displays dead.
the backlights fine and im getting a signal so obviously its just the display, does anyone have any ideas on how i can fix it?

i dont know anything about GA628. But i fixed my P800's display last year for $240 from the local service center.

You should be able to find a new display for around 20-25 bucks, figure another 20 - 30 to get it fitted if you don´t do it yourself.
EDIT: I´m living in the land of Ericsson.. this might not apply worldwide

i only bought it for £20 just as a bit of nostalgia (the 628 was my very first phone) theres no point spending a lot more cash to fix it.

Ok, well try to find another one, hopefully a "no network" one for a tenner and scrap it for the display

Maybe u just knocked a connection loose. It may be worth takin apart to see if u can find anythin

Whaaaat!? You've broken it already @nature?

It could well be just a loose connection, if you feel confident enough to have a go at taking it apart then do so - although I've had one of those apart before, they can be a bit tricky to take apart, especially unscrewing those battery connectors!

hmm mik may have something there, i just realised that after its turned on the keypad dies as well, if i press a button straight away they work, i get the beep and everything but if i leave it a second it dies.
now i wonder how to open it.......

so all i have to do is unscrew the bottom screws and then the battery connectors? what did you use for the battery connectors?

I used a pair of jeweller's screwdrivers and used them to unscrew the battery connectors by putting the heads of those small screwdrivers carefully into those gaps and turning. Not a perfect solution but it worked for me. You just have to be careful you don't damage or scratch either the plastic surrounding the connectors or damage the connectors themselves.

btw I've just found this auction for an untested GA628 still at 99p, finished at about 3pm today, should be good for spares, and may even be fully working!
