Hey there!

I want my P900 to have the backlight permanently on when it's in the cradle. In the Display options, there's two configurable backlight options. This is how mine is configured->

Light: Auto
Light(car): On

I want the backlight to be permanently on when it's in the syncstation, but how does the 'car' mode work? How does the phone know when it's in car mode?

When i place the P900 in the cradle, the backlight comes on, but it goes off after a few seconds, just the same as when it's in the palm of your hand.

Can anybody shed some light into how this works?

I'd appreciate that!

I think the P900 would react differently when it is plugged into some type of car holder.

That could possible keep the light on.

There could possibly be different type of connections on a car holder which in turn keeps the light on, where as the sync station is just for 'syncing' and has different conectors all together.

Plus the sync station is connected up to your PC where as if its connected up to your car its a completely different configuration and a different power source.

I hope that makes some kind of sense mate

Forget the car mode (unless you are using an advanced car kit). It doesn't matter, if you are using a sync station or a powered car cradle - P910 functions are same in both cases. The handheld mode is the only mode you need and you can still keep P910's lights on (in a car and in a sync station).

Here are my settings:

Hey Eepo,

Thanks for your detailed response. Much appreciated.

It seems your screenshots are taken from a P910i, and unfortunately some of those options are not available on the P900.

You have your handheld light set to On. I can do this on the P900 but i don't want the light to be permanently on when it's running on batteries, only when the phone is on the syncstation and/or when it's charging.

Is there any way that this is possible? It doesn't look like it's possible on the P900 firmware, but maybe a third party application might be able to control it?

Hope you can help me with this.

Thanks in advance,

@djkizlive,

Can you adjust 'power save' in your P900?

I think that's the trick!

@CarMode,

Thanks for the reply!

Yes you can change 'Power Save' on the P900, there are three options

>Off
>Blank
>Clock

Mine was set to clock. I turned it off, and put it in the syncstation, but the backlight still went off unfortunately.

Anything else i can try? I await your reply! (Nice rhyme eh?)

@djkizlive,

Can you activate the 'power save' after 1 minute?

Power save must be on! When not in a car cradle or in a sync station, then P900's lights should go off, when the 'power save' activate.

I don't think you can fool the phone into thinking it's in a car kit (car cradles don't count... although I think they SHOULD)

The older Ericsson's had a simple rule... power supply + handsfree = carkit. But the later ones had to have a more advanced system of accessory ID.

SE kept the concept, and so far has kept 3 profiles, all switched automatically (can't be done manually)
-Handheld
-Handsfree/Headset (this now includes BT headsets on the newer models...also known as the sniffer mode)
-Car

Each accessory has been wired to trigger the mode change. And there doesn't seem to be a way to fool your phone to thinking it's plugged into an accessory manually.

@jplacson

Thanks a lot for that information. I'm guessing that it's not actually possible to make the backlight stay on when it's in the cradle then. Perhaps it's a feature SE should implement in the next series of phones.

Much appreciated.
