If you have insurance on the phone, go in an Orange store and claim it was stolen from your pocket as you were walking a busy street (Pickpocket). They will call the insurance company and pass the phone over to you. Explain what happened, where it happened, what time, (make it all up), and make sure the story is believable. Tell them the pocket was not open, it was zipped.

They will then put the phone on the blacklist and it will not be usable on any network, only as a PDA with emergency calls.

They should then send a new phone and sim card out to you, if your claim is accepted.

I'm not a scammer, i haven't got anything from an insurance company before. Unfortunately for me, i tried, and my claim was rejected

Hope you have more luck than i did.

Tell them as dj says. Say it got stolen in a busy train or something. Something on your daily route to office. Make it up so that the story becomes a part of your normal routine. This message was posted from a K500

First a little rant. I regard the insurance industry as a bunch of scum; its just legitmized theft. If it were not for the fact that it is run by and for the benefit of white middle class males it would be regulated to the enth degree.

Personally, I insure NOTHING unless the law says I have to. My best insurance is self protection and being careful. So at home I have good security grilles and a large knife in case the improbable happens and some scum manages to get into my home. I knife in the bastards gut doesn't involve talking to some scum insurance assessor who will try and shaft you at every opportunity even though you have been paying premiums for years.

If anyone shafts an insurance company they have my whole hearted support.

- Little Rant Over -

The philosopher and religious thinker St Thomas Aquinos said that if there is a choice to be made between justice and the law one should choose justice.

So with St Aquinos in mind if you just feel like having a new phone then don't make a claim. But if something bad happens and you lose your phone but the insurance policy is full of get out clauses to prevent you from claiming, my advice is to tell the LIE the WHOLE LIE and nothing but the LIE if it ensures that the insurer willl pay up.

Secondly, I think you may be lucky because from what I can recollect the Orange insurance scheme is quite generous - a rarity. So you may find that your situation is covered. You could try phoning Orange from a NON ORANGE phone (as you wouldn't want them to log the enquiry). Then make up some story about your girlfriend losing her phone under the circumstances you have just described in this thread and see what the attitude/response is. You could even go into one of the larger Orange stores and put the scenario to them and see what they say.

Third, be mindful of the fact that the insurance industry scum have been whining about fraud. So now, if you make an insurance claim on the basis of theft it can happen that either (a) the shop or the insurer will inform the police or (b) they will ask you to do so yourself and then provide them with a Crime Reference Number before they continue to process your claim.

Fourth, are you looking at the FULL policy document? If you are not, you may find that the fuller version may provide you with some comfort - some policies for laptops and phones are now very comprehensive and allow for mishaps like drops in the toilet, dog chewing, losing etc.

Finally, my personal advice is DONT INSURE ANYTHING. Do the simple maths. It's all based on probability. If the probability was that most policy holders would claim or that the event insured against was likely to happen then there would be no insurance industry, they would go bust; they can only make money if the liklihood is that you are unlikely to claim. So reverse that thinking and say "well if it ain't likely to happen why insure" You also need to look at the premiums you pay over a year, and ask yourself how many phones or whatever, you could have bought. Another part of the equation is loss. That is to say, if the event one is insuring against ever happened what is the cost to me. Well, frankly in my humble opinion with mobile phones being so damn cheap now, the loss of one doesn't warrant paying insurance premiums - not unless it's a FULLY Comprehensive policy at around £1 per month.

There that's my tuppence worth. Hope it helps.

Good luck.
