I am gonna update my firmware. Dunno why, just want the latest version.
I am in the process of backing up the phone and stick now.
I have done this once before. The update etc went fine only when I went to restore the backed up file, it said "invalid file" or something similar. I have lots more on the phone now. 256MB of pics, games, apps, music etc etc... you all know the score.
Before when i called SE to help me restore the .ecs file, they just couldnt help. They were pretty useless in fact, they just apologised and said I would have to start from scratch.
So now I am worried that if I update the firmware that I will not be able to restore again.
Has anyone else had this experience or can you think if what you should do in the event of the back up not wanting to restore again?

Presumably, if you have 256Mb of all that, the majority is stored on a Duo Pro, in which case you can simply stick it back in the handset after the backup/upgrade/restore sequence and all will be as it was pre-upgrade, as nothing on the stick is affected.
For anything you have on the phone memory, you run the same risk though generally if you use the latest PC Suite (3.1.1, I think) you shouldn't have too much of a problem. You weren't trying to restore a P900 backup to a P910i when you tried before, were you, as that won;t work due to the two having different file system structures?
Just a thought...

I cant remember now Dave, I did have a P900 but I am sure the problems I had were with the same P900. Yeah it must have been as it was when I upgraded the P900 firmware before.
You're right about thr memory stick though. That was a waste of time then! hehe...

nope, no need to uninstall the previous version - just make sure you are upgrading from the version directly previous to 3.1.1, as trying to install over anything older than the one version before can cause problems. I remember having backup/restore problems with my 800 or 900 - I think it was to do with Appforge.

Oh i dont know... I dont know when it was intsalled or how many upgrades of it there have been! Too confusing this computer lark!!
It sounds safer to uninstall and re-install the new one! Hopefully all existing b/ups will remain safe!

No, listen. I'll try to simplify.
You need only install 2 versions of the PC Suite - the latest version (3.1.1) and the one before it (first, obviously, which is 3.0.0). This, as I understand it, is because the latest version is an upgrade for the one before.
You are less likely to have problems if you go this way, than if you simply uninstall whatever you have a install 3.1.1 instead.
I hope that makes sense.

Yeah ok, I'll just install the new one then over what I already have.
Cheers Dave!

what i did was I installed the original version that came with the P900 CD, and then downloaded the new one.. I don't know if the CD version is in fact 3.0.0 but just to be on the safe side you can install that and then whatever upgrade there is on SE website
