Can anyone quickly explain how the various video formats and apps work out?

I read that the p910 can only play mpeg4 clips but people mention AVI, DivX and other acronyms. I'm having trouble working out what this means and what apps I need to get the best quality video that will fit on a decent sized mem card.

Thx.

The P910 out of the box will play mp4 and 3gp

If you install SmartMovie V2.63 then you will be able to play avi (divx/xvid/3ivx) files on your phone

There is as you get a better looking picture at smaller sizes than mp4 but for me the sound isnt much cop

Mp4 gives a better sound at smaller sizes than avi

So if i could get a divx file with aac sound to play on my phone i would be in Heaven

Nozza wrote, "I read that the p910 can only play mpeg4 clips". My P800 plays both mp4 and 3gp. Surely I expect the P910 to be able to handle 3gp too. This message was posted from a P800

Thanks. So what is Xvid?

I just d/l'd Smartmovie demo. Even the demo clips on the phone are jerky for the first 5-10 seconds. Is this normal or is it my phone resources being used by other apps or something?

Its normal for the first couple of seconds to be jerky

Divx/xvid/3ivx are just differnet compression tools stored in a container(avi) depending on which part of the fence you sit on people will say that divx is the best or 3ivx is the best its just down too personal taste and also knowing how to get the best out of each compression tool

Also, when Smartmovie hides the scroll and volume bars (in the first seconds when you press play) it takes some CPU to smooth-scroll the, to the edges of the screen
