I have had my P800 for nearly a year now and I love it, well i did! The only problems I have is that it sometimes crashes and restarts its self. It has a habbit of changing the clock time. The memory stick duo doesn't work. Has any one else had these problems? Are there any software updates available to update the firmware? This phone has not been dropped, so how come the memory stick isn't working (accepts nothing as I have two of them). This has to be the most annoying thing as the phone is no good without the added space for MP3's and extra programs.

Wow, you're from Leicester! Same as me!

Welcome to Esato mate!

Sounds to me like your phone could do with having it's firmware upgraded. Phones normally restart if they're running incredibly low on disk space, and it will say it restarted to 'improve performance'.

I think a simple firmware update should fix these problems, but before you go down that road, try freeing up some disk space on the phone's internal memory.

The clock time is probably changing all the time because the tiny button cell battery on the board is dead. If the time is changing when you turn the phone off & on again, then it would point to the battery, however if the time is changing while the phone is on, then i'd recommend you had the phone's software upgraded.

Regarding the Memory Stick issue, if the phone is not detecting any of the sticks you're putting in it, then it's a problem with the MS port on the phone. If your P800 is out of warranty, which is probably is, then it would cost you a lot to get it repaired.

There's a mechanism in the memory slot which tells the phone when there's a card in the slot, and then it reads it. If this is not working properly, then the phone will not pick up the memory cards.

As you live nearby, i'd be more than happy to perform a firmware update on your phone, if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, and i'd happily attempt to fix the memory stick problem for you (already fixed a P900 with the same problem before).

I could offer this service to you for a small charge, if you wanted.

If you'd like further information, feel free to PM me, or send me an e-mail (preferred) regarding the issue.

Hope this is helpful to you!

I couldnt have been more helpful myself. Dj you're a credit to esato, offering your time to help others. Rob once things are sorted out you will love ur P800 again. I go through moments of frustrations myself but once everything is fixed its the most brilliant phone around (referring to the whole P series:-)

Hey!

Thanks for that guys! I do my best to help around here! No point letting what i know sit in my head and go to waste!

I agree with you on the fact that the Pxx0 series of phones are just amazing! It's like any good relationship, it's great most of the time, but you do have tiny 'tiffs' now and then!

Hope rob falls back in love with his P800 again, i certainly don't think there's a better Phone/PDA combination out there yet.

Thanks for the support guys, if you have any problems, or if you'd like any repairs doing, just PM me

Take care,

there is another reason why the clock keeps changing: when you perform a sync with the pc it checks the time. if the clock on the pc is wrong, it'll change it on the p8.

Another reason behind the changing clock would be if you set Daylight Savings Time wrongly. This message was posted from a P800

Thanks alot for your help. Thaks for the welcome as well. Being a computing student at De Montfort uni i think i should be able to handle a firmware upgrade. Saying that I may well call on you to try and fix my memory stick, and maybe get you to do the upgrade as you know what ure doing. Just annoying when i've only got the internal memory to mess around with. As with regards to the clock changing, i did preform a sync with my PC so think that may have caused it. Does any one know where I can get the firmware upgrade from? I done some recent install but think that was only cirtificates, can't remember to be honnest. Will check it out.
Cheers

Hey,

Thanks for adding those two points about the clock changing, they are worth checking out too.

You could try to perform the Firmware Upgrade yourself at DMU, but i'm not sure if the computers are restricted there or not. You will need to install the PC Suite software on the computers, and install the drivers for the USB Sync Station, and i'm not too sure if they will let you do that. It takes about 20 minutes to complete as well.

If you'd like me to investigate the memory stick problem, and perhaps perform a firmware upgrade if you cannot do so yourself, just send me a PM or contact me via MSN/E-Mail, and we can make arrangements there.

Good luck,

re the clock changing the time when you sync, just uncheck the box to sync your clock with the pc's clock. simple as that.

it's either in the sync settings or under Properties when you right-click on the little phone icon on the taskbar.
