I knew something would go wrong I just knew it and after 2 years of Pxx usage, not one update has ever gone on without a hitch.
I really need some help guys.
Did the firmware update yesterday.
During the restore process after the update it highlighted a "messages" file that it couldnt restore for some reason. I clicked retry still nothing so I said "skip" to it.
Today it has dawned on me that I cant access the SMS section of the messages folder. I can get into MMS's and create MMS's, I can get into the Beamed folder but if you tap SMS or Create SMS the screen just jumps a bit and remains on the Messages view.
So baiscally I'm well screwed. I dont know what file tried to restore that I skipped and I dont know how to fix this. Even if I updated again I would still have to work off the same restore file.
Any miracle workers out there???

I need to somehow look at the list of files within the .ecs backup file. Can someone remind me how this is done please?

Geez - someone is definitely trying to tell you something!
I think you're looking for
Backup Inspector, but I don't know if that's going to help much.
It just sounds like a bad backup, which I don't know of any way of fixing.
Anyway, good luck!
Dave

Cheers Masseur, I have since remembered how to open that list. I need to identify the correct file will allow the SMS areas to be accessed. Any ideas at all?
I am on the phone to the SE helpline now too, doubt they will help though.
A master reset wont really help as I woudl still only have the duff backup to restore from.
I hate thise firmware update procedure and the backups. They're all completely useless and never work. I just took delivery of my 512MB card, backed up the old one and tried to restore it to the new card. That too came up with about 12 corrupt files. F*ckin useless rubbish.

sorry, no idea on that one and I recently restored my vaio back to original state and reinstalled everything so I donÄt have any old backups I can look through which might jog my memory and of course I don't have a pxxx any more either
good luck with SE!

Just rename it on the PC and drop it in to the corresponding file on the phone.
If the file on the phone is locked, rename it as well then replace it with the one from the backup.
To be honest I have had no problem at all with restoring backups after the f/w update. The last one was perfect. Very strange .......

the post I linked to tells you how to do that in the last paragraph (using contacts as an example)
you can rename it on the pc and drop it into the correct place on the phone and probably in this case that will work if the file is missing. Unfortunately you have to do it the long way for existing files which are locked by the operating system
