Samsung Electronics said it had developed the world's first mobile phone with motion-recognition capabilities.
The SCH-S310 phone allows users to dial by waving the phone to write numbers in the air instead of pressing a keypad, Samsung said.
Users could also delete unsolicited commercial text messages by shaking the phone up and down.
The new device used a "six-axis sensor" that could interpret simple human gestures, Samsung said.
The phone's makers said it opened up a way for people to interact with their phones more naturally.
The SCH-S310 phone with a 1.3-megapixel camera and digital music player would be released in South Korea in March.
Samsung described the new phone as the most innovative of its latest product offerings.

It would be fun using that phone in an auction show or a stock exchange for that matter!

the r520 ericsson had one of these right?
the accelerometer is pretty useless i feel. i saw it being used in a pda. it was used to flip pages while reading a document or play a game... things that can be accomplished by a simple joystick.
and it makes the device all that much heavier.

I believe that this is outstanding use of technology and makes the mobile much more organic. With mobiles being more incorperated in our daily lives i think this technology has a good future.

the R520 has a sensor to detect if there is an ear(head) near the phone. if not it switches to the speakerphone. (very handy and very good from what i've heard).
this new thing from samsung is nice when you are thinking of inavation.
but it isn't really usefull. its more something for childeren or people who love to be noticed with there overpriced phone.

It may seem like that way...but i think there is lot of potential in this for future products.
Organic meaning natural as in to interpret human gestures.
