Publishing group Pan Macmillan is using
Hypertag interactive posters in a promotional campaign for their title,
Teen Idol. The system encourages 10-14 year olds to interact with outdoor poster advertising for the book.
Six sheet bus shelter posters fitted with infra-red Hypertags are positioned in strategic locations in the UK. Participants point their mobile phones toh the poster to receive a voucher on their phones telling them if they’ve won one of the prizes on offer including a shopping spree, lip balms, book samplers and screen savers.

They should use BT instead of IR imo
@50 - it'll be the ones in front of which there's a queue of people waiting for their turn to use the interactive features

This can be enhanced by using Bluetooth. You no longer need to point your mobile to download and/or get connected with the billboard. Kameleon, website
http://www.kameleon-europe.com, has been working on bluetooth enhancement for 4 years now and offer now a "one click" solution, fast, robust and with a long battery life (up to 2 years).
