> k700i: can you surf @ 28.8kbps?

Here's my problem: when I surf with my laptop using the k700i modem, I can only connect at 14.4kbps and not 28.8kbps.
I'm using the standard bluetooth modem driver, as when I install the SE one, I can't even connect (it doesn't even compose the number on my k700i, I think it's a problem of COM port but when I install the drivers I can only assign it to port COM1 and 10, and I enable these ports in the Phone Monitor but it won't work) . The maximal speed is set at 115200 with the Standard modem driver. Oh BTW I'm on Windows XP SP2
Any idea?

No it's not the line, my provider told me the maximal speed was... ehm I don't remember I think it was 35kbps or something, and that my line was operational, and it comes from my phone!
Edit: I've called them and it's 43.2kbps...

Well, I am yet to find a solution to my t610 which wouldn't get past 9.6kbps on the same computer

To make se software recognise your phone try reserving the com ports...go with hit and trial it worked for me
I also connect my phone to my pc at a max allowed speed of 115kbps. The speeds that you mentioned(14.4 and 28.8kbps)...are these kbits/s or kbytes/s and where are you readin them off? I generally get download speeds(using free download manager with IE) of around 5kBytes/s at nights...sometimes it even goes upto 9kBytes/s if i'm lucky. Currently i have 2 downloads in progress wih speeds of 5.3 and 1.9 kBytes/s

For the speed, it shows up when the connection is established, the 2 little screens appear near the clock, and it says "Connected at 14.4kbps", which is bits not bytes... So basically I can't download at more than 1.5k/s...
Oh, and the max. speed of the modem is 28.8kbps in High Speed Data (HSCSD) so I won't get past 4k/s... Which is quite sufficient for me

It seems to be a network limitation coz while usin it as a gprs modem it even connected to pc at 921kbps(which is max possible setting) so doesnt seem to be a phone problem or maybe it has these issues when used as a gsm(hscsd) modem tho i doubt it.

There are a couple of ways to solve this problem. First, the drivers for the K700 will let you choose between analogue modem and ISDN at the other end, and there is also an easy way to select the speed.
You might try to go to device manager and upgrade the driver for the "Standard GSM Modem". The K700 should be connected at this point:
1. Right-click my computer and select "Properties".
2. Click "Hardware" tab.
3. Click "Device Manager" button.
4. Expand "Modems" entry.
5. Right-click your modem and select "Update driver".
6. Since you have already installed the K700 drivers, try to let Windows search for a better driver.
7. If Windows does not find the K700 drivers on it's own, go back and do everything manually, pointing Windows to where the K700 drivers are.
The second way to increase the speed to 28.8kbps, is to enter an "Extra Initialization Command" for the modem. You will have to find this place yourself. Note that I am not sure whether or not you need the initial "AT" there. If you get into trouble, try without it.
The following command will make the phone try to connect at 28.8kbps towards an analogue modem:
AT+CHSN=4,0,2,12;+CBST=16,0,1
The following command will try at the same speed towards an ISDN line:
AT+CHSN=4,0,2,12;+CBST=80,0,1;+DS=0
(the +DS=0 turns off compression, which ISDN does not use. This command was necessary in older phones, and should not cause any trouble).
Note that you will save about 30 seconds in connection time by going for ISDN. Some providers have both modems and ISDN adapters at the same access number, others separate them.
Final note: I would recommend that you use GPRS instead of HSCSD. The phone is capable of 80-something kbps on GPRS, though most networks do not support this. I consistently get almost 50 kbps in my network.
