I have found a disturbing lack of tutorials or "How Tos" when it comes to phone self-repair.

For Example, I need a new screen for my p800. So I ordered a T7 screwdriver from Ebay for a measly 1.84 pounds delivered to my door (UK).

And I went searching for tutorials. All I found was this image:


Now normally i'd be happy with this. But its a little basic. It doesn't mention any cautions or little tricks. I will now use the images above to attempt to explain the procedure step by step. (Pictures will be reffered to as "Pic 1" and "Pic 2" etc, going from left to right, top to bottom)

Step 1: Remove Battery, SIM card, and Memory Stick Duo

Step 2: Remove the antenna cover (the fascia that covers the camera part of the phone.) (Pic 1)

There should now be 4 screws visible.

Step 3: Use the T7 screwdriver you have bought to unscrew these four screws, and remove them.

Step 4: As the image (Pic 2) shows, use your thumb to split the case. A little force must be applied here as there are a few little plastic "holds" that must be moved (not broken). Also, don't be afraid if when the case comes apart the "On" button comes with it, it is a simple matter of replacing it in its original posiiton.
Caution: Although a little force is necessary, be aware of the small ribbon that connects the Jog Dial (seen in pic 4) to the motherboard. This will come apart easily, but care should be taken none the less.

Step 5: The motherboard is now exposed. If, like mine, the phone is a bit old, there will be dust around (especially the jog dial). This can be removed, but be careful not to remove any of the loose components with it.

Step 6: Disconnect the screen's connection to the motherboard simply by lifting it carefully off. It should "pivot" to the side after being disconnected allowing the motherboard to be removed as in the next step.

Step 7: Remove the motherboard, NOT by attempting to unscrew it (your T7 should be the wrong size anyway) but simply move the white plasic "clips" (as seen in Pic 3) holding it in place while lifiting the motherboard carefully from its case.

Step 8: The same plastic "clips" will also be holding the screen in place, simply use the same procedure as the motherboard to remove the screen.

Reconstruction: I am yet to reconstruct my p800, but will update this with a full reconstruciton guide when I have the chance.

So, there is a reason why this is called the "Taking apart p800/p900/p910 thread, and thats because it goes for all p900/910 owners too. However, as I have not got a p900 or a p910 handy, (or the money to buy one) I have not had the opportunity to delve into its inner workings.

So, if anyone has any experience here, post your guide as well if you could.

There was a link to the manual for the P900 somewhere. I can't remember where it is, but you should be able to find it if you search
A while back, I'm sure Masseur tried to modify a P800 housing.

Oh and that post about masseur modifying his p800 housing (turned out to be untrue, but meh.) has inspired me to have a go at painting the fascia of mine... I might go design it now... I'll post pics when and if its done.

hey nick, great tutorial but in step2 how do you remove the antenna cover?
Does it come off easy? I tried but it seems like its gonna break. plz help, i dont want to break it!

Well, you just have to apply a little force where it connects to the camera. (As in to the left or right) a little force is ok.

didnt know there were tabs connecting to the lens area, I gave it a bit of force left and right and it came right out:)
