The title says it all, I've just ordered a DSS-25 cradle.
Can someone please confirm the latest Orange UK firmware that the update service will flash for the K700i ? (I'm currently on R2L)
I've read one or two people have had Orange handsets upgraded to later firmwares in shops, but I'd like to know if the update service also has the latest Orange firmware.

After the SEUS seem to be live again the other day I tried updating my K700i (Orange branded). I'm sad to say that it still doesnt work!!!!

If SEUS doesn;t work, you can always use DaVinci with your DSS-25.

The main advantage is that it will get rid of all the Orange customisation. The downside is that you will need to back up your phone first and set up your WAP profiles again.

That is very bad news. I wonder why they did that.
BTW - What's the going rate for DaVinci credits? - I'm still waiting for a direct reply from them, and also a reply from a few members who are offering "discounted" credits.

The current reason and which is valid, is that the SEUS isnt currently working correctly, you can read of post all over the internet even with the latest firmware update that peoples phones are crashing, corrupting and in worse cases dead.
The mobile phone networks are not stopping you in having the updates done at a local SE/ CPW just online. This safe for you and them.
As they view it, if the phone isnt broken, then leave it alone. Yes we are all well aware that new software updated resolve faults, however they also create new ones and this is why networks like to have there own software. We all moan about it, but we still buy the phones.
When the update service works correctly then the networks will reopen there barriers and allow you to use them.
currently the update is for generic k700is only, no network rubbish on at all.

My "local" SE service center took my phone for two days (yes, they forced me to book it in for a firmware update) - I turn up to collect it, and it "didn't take the firmware update" .... hmmm, maybe because the idiots tried to put the regular SE firmware on my Orange branded phone (I expected them to be able to either get hold of the Orange branded firmware or debrand the phone, which from what I've read they do tend to do for people) - they wanted to send it "higher up" the line and that would have taken an extra 3 weeks apparently.
Anyway that was a couple of months ago, after that experience I really doubt that I can rely on them to put on the latest Orange firmware painlessly.
Do all (large) CPW stores offer firmware upgrades, or is it only the ones designated as authorised SE repair centers? (From a list, it only seems as if there are two SE approved repair centers in Glasgow - neither is a CPW)
Also, assuming the answer to the above question is a "yes", is there a charge for firmware upgrades at CPW stores if the phone/contract was not purchased through CPW ?

You should be able to go into any CPW store and get your phone updated. They won't necessarily do it on site as they have dedicated service centres around the country. Like the ones in Glasgow.
It can take upto 14 days to have your firmware updated and they will offer you a temporary phone (Nokia 1100 I think) for a deposit of £50.
As long as the phone is within warranty and you have a receipt of purchase for the phone (not necessarily from CPW) then there shouldnt be any issues at all.
Except the long wait offcourse!

Just wondering because I want mine updating and dont feel like travelling all the way to Nottingham.
Is it always a 14 day wait or can it be shorter than that?

I was down in Guildford today, and happened to come across a CPW store which performed firmware updates.
I explained that I was coming back to Glasgow later in the afternoon, and they offered to get the upgrade done in an hour.
I was a bit dismayed when I realised they had put R2A on my phone, and in the end they managed to put R2L back on, and said that was the latest Orange one they had access to.
I've decided to just give in and try DaVinci, I've paid for the DSS-25 anyway.
