Ok, my K700 has started to play up on me. My joystick has become unresponsive and doesn't seem to be any better after blowing underneath. So I sent this to SE:
I have had my K700i for about 7 months now and all of a sudden the joystick has become a lot less responsive. I have to press it hard to access the menu and also pressing right or down hardly ever works.
Some people have suggested that the joystick has clogged up with dust etc but I am not sure.
Can I return this to my provider (O2) and demand a working phone as I am inside my contract length and the phone is insured. I refuse to put up with the phone the way it is for much longer!
Regards,
And now they have sent me this in return:

Kind Regards,
I am wondering, could this be an actual solution to the joystick problem? I can flash with multiserver, I am not too bothered about that but I want to know if this will fix the joystick, I don't want to lose a lot of my games/apps only to find that it did not work!

can't see a software upgrade helping, my mate has this problem with his k700, i also have it on my t610 and my t68i suffered it as well. Seems like a problem from over use/dirt/wear and tear. Have you tried taking the phone to bits, then cleaning around the joystick?

Well one thing is for sure, their auto reply feature is working! Well dc, this has been reported before. It is easy to deal it. Remove the front housing and you will have access to joystick contacts, clean it using the cloth that comes with glasses. (P.s, somebody even suggested to pull hard on the joystick using nose pliers, and this makes a very smooth joystick.)

Here in my country, service centers clean your phone along w/ the upgrade itself if your still under warranty. I suggest you let them (:es: service center) do the checking and cleaning for you..as for the reply you got that's just an auto reply as givigov said...

I've been a victim of those "smart" answers from them call centers!

Damn, I really didn't want to remove the front cover. I bought a whole new fascia from eBay a while back and could not get all the parts off. It felt like I was going to snap the phone so I left it but if that's what must be done...
Anyone got any tips on getting the front off?

That answer from SE is rubbish! Your problem has nothing to do with your firmware and an update sure aint gonna fix it!
The guy who read your mail was "somewhere else" than at his work - he was probably dreaming the day away or something...
Many support lines (not just SE) educate their staff at the same level as a monkey... they can manage 10 things - at top!

It's all cut and paste.
If you sent them for eg
How long do bats live you would of probably had the same response.
Mines the same as yours (sort of). Wack it down to

centre and ask them to get all the gunk out.

Ok, I got te front off and took off the silver part of the joystick. Do I have to do anything else (i.e. do something to the piece that sticks up) as it has not improved and it is really annoying now, takes me ages to do texts!!!

DC, dont you think its better to take it to the

service centre? they should be able to clean it in a day or 3 tops. arent you giving away your warranty, by opening the phone yourself?
